Writer. AuDHD. Kinda witchy. She/her.

Currently writing my debut novel, “Dolls” - a 1960’s feminist LitFic with a supernatural edge.
Pinned
Sing, when you are silenced
Dance, when you are moved
Shout, in bold defiance
Laugh, and be renewed

Go, a little further
Shine, in dark’s long day
Ask, ‘what is the answer?’
‘Love’, we say, we say

Remember that the pain you feel
is evidence of good.

Remember, buried in the ache
is love for what was broken.

Remember that your heart
holds the promise of renewal.

As long at it beats,
all will not be lost.

The sheer volume of apps claiming to help people with ADHD that just turn out to be glorified planners is actually laughable.

(But on a serious note: also exploitative and potentially harmful.)

On my screen,
a child cries
for his home.

There’s a cat
in his arms,
a blessed friend

from the ruin
they return
to rebuild.

He declares
he will live.

It is done.

I have terrible food allergies, but every day I think about risking it all on a ham and cheese croissant.

This millennial will never mock Gen Z. They've transformed how we speak about mental health. I never dreamed we'd see the destigmatization of mental illness happen this quickly, but we’ve started talking about therapy as easily as we talk about groceries. We owe them so much ❤️

Women under 30: fill your feeds with cool older women who dgaf. Make sure your horizon looks like somewhere you want to be.

My sister just declared this year Twenty-Twenty Thrive.

That’s the energy I want for all of us in these strange and turbulent times.

How on earth are writers going to prove we're not soulless robots? CAPTCHA?

It’s also simply not true! A great first draft has a solid framework, golden ideas, and lots of raw emotion. Sure, the kitchen looks messy, but if you have good ingredients, the dish will be great. It just needs cooking.
I don't like "Your first draft will be shitty" as advice, because it's a really negative framing.

I prefer, "You have the freedom to be messy creating your first draft."

Anyone crafter knows what their room looks like mid-creation. Writers should be as free to be as exhuberent and messy.

Any writers entering the Women’s Prize discoveries competition this year? Whatever happens, I’m feeling SO good about it. I’m finally taking a chance on myself. 💪

Not to brag but I've been blessed with nightly insomnia and a terrible intolerance to caffeine. Dream combo. 10/10.

Gentle reminder not to make assumptions.

I’m well aware most people who meet me think I’m a happy person who’s had a fairly easy go of it.

I don’t tell them how hard I fought for the joy I have today. As a chronically ill, traumatised, disabled woman, I had to crawl through hell to get here.

A poem for my fellow night owls…

If anyone UK-based has the chance to see this in Stratford this season - go! Brilliant fun.

I’m not usually one for reality TV, but BBC’s The Traitors has me under a spell.

I want more whimsy in 2025. More flow. More play. More joy.

I want to let go and just be.

The hardest part about editing your own book is deleting. I used to ask, will I miss these words, will I miss this part of the story?

That's the wrong question.

The right question is, will anyone else miss it?

I don’t like how folk are trying to read shame. If you read 100 books, awesome. If you read 10 books, awesome. Just read.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

I’d say my New Year’s resolution is to buy no more books until I’ve finished the 80 or so waiting to be read on my shelves, but who am I kidding?
