Finished this #Pokémon portrait #commission for a friend that he gifted to some wonderful guys!

Finishing the #GoneTooSoon series is this #bat species native to the #Marianas Islands
Little was known about its reproductive habits, but after a female was shot & discovered accompanied by a juvenile, it is believed they practiced ongoing parental care. (1/2)

#Pinktober2025 Day 30: #MountGloriousDayFrog
This #frog was native to #Queensland and relied on wet environments to survive. It was first described in 1966, but due to habitat destruction, disease, and introduction of invasive flora and fauna, it was extinct by 1979.

This #wallaby lived in Southern #Australia and was described as graceful and elegant, with erratic movements that helped it elude predators. (1/2)

#Pinktober2025 Day 28: #WesternBlackRhinoceros
This species of #Rhinoceros was endemic to #Africa and was quite common for a time. Its horn was highly sought after for various purposes and poaching of the #rhino eventually led to it being completely wiped out. It was declared extinct in 2011.

This is one of the first creatures to introduce humanity to the concept of #extinction
It was a #pigeon that lived abundantly in #NorthAmerica and became a popular source of meat when Europeans colonized the land. (1/2)

#Pinktober2025 Day 26 (a day late): #JavanTiger
This #tiger lived on the island of #Java & was smaller than most other Asian tigers. Several factors contributed to its demise, including habitat loss, loss of prey species to disease & poisoning, & overhunting. It was declared extinct in 2008.

This #deer species was endemic to #Thailand and lived in herds of one male, several females, and their young, in swampy plains. They went extinct in 1938 due to excessive hunting and habitat loss from the increase of rice trade.

This burrowing #boa is a species of #snake that inhabited the island of #Mauritius in an extremely small range of forested habitat. It was heavily persecuted by early settlers and its habitat destroyed, and eventually went extinct in the late 1900s.

This was a small #wolf species with pale fur endemic to #Sicily that was the subject of many superstitions and was hunted to extinction in the 1900s. There is only one photograph in existence of a live specimen.

This relative of the #dugong was massive, growing up to 30ft in length, weighing up to 10t, & covered in a thick layer of blubber to survive frigid waters. It was hunted for its meat, fat, & hide, & went extinct in 1768, less than 30 years after its discovery.

This was a large mink species that lived on the northern east coast of North America & was only described after it went extinct. It was aggressively hunted for its size (being the largest of the minks) & reddish fur & went extinct in the late 19th/early 20th century.

This small #lizard lived on #RatasIsland in #Spain. The island was demolished in the 1930s to allow large ships to enter the bay. This beautiful #reptile was declared extinct in 1950, another example of the fragility of island species.

This #bison lived during the mid #Pleistocene to #Holocene. While the exact cause of its extinction is still debated, the fact that it was hunted by #Neanderthal & modern human alike suggests that humans played a big role in wiping this megafauna from existence.
