Finnish school kids get a week off in February (the exact week varies by region), I love how we call this week hiihtoloma, “skiing holiday”. Such a Finnish concept!

- official youtube MVs for the songs that had them
- fan uploads (not legal)

When I watch Japanese series with Japanese subtitles on, it's just so I can learn new kanji. It does NOT help me understand the speech better, on the contrary, it slows me down
When I watch Spanish languages series with Spanish subtitles on, I do it to support comprehension of the speech

I’ve watched so much Japanese reality this past month! The Japanese they use is pretty easy to understand, so I try to watch with Japanese subtitles a lot instead of English

I just finished watching Love Village (season 1), Japanese romance reality for people aged 35+, gotta love how they used Backstreet Boys for the intro song. Age-wise I would’ve fit in perfectly

A funny bit of information, as a kid I memorised that my Chinese zodiac sign is Rooster (kukko in Finnish), because my Western Zodiac is Pisces (kalat in Finnish), and there’s a regional dish in Finland called kalakukko. From this you can conclude I’m soon turning 45, or 21, or maybe 81?

I’ve never been to Japan, but a long time ago already I remember hearing about second hand shops in Tokyo where they also buy your merchandise. Do these shops still exist? If they do, do you have any info/advice for me? I have a lot of H!P merch that I could sell

Such a beautiful day in Helsinki today. If you visited Helsinki in the spring, autumn, or winter, and didn’t fall in love with the city, please make sure you also visit in the summer when it’s hot and sunny. Today I feel like I really love my hometown!

My progress was slow before, but now (Jan-Feb) I'm trying to learn as much as I can, making it my main focus!
My methods:
- weekly italki lessons, together with a friend (done two now and speaking is slowly getting easier)
- physical grammar book (Tuttle)

This autumn it will be 20 years since I started learning Japanese. Imagine how good I’d be if that meant 20 years of effort! I guess I’ve just lacked motivation. One of my language goals for this year is to improve my Japanese to a level where I can read a bit and survive a normal conversation

I've been watching the Colombian series Eva Lasting (La Primera Vez in Spanish) a bit too much this week as I dreamed about Eva last night. I started the series really slowly, but I got totally hooked after the first half of season 1. I'm halfway season 2 now

People often tell me I underestimate my language skills/levels, I think it's just that I hide my shortcomings for the sake of smooth conversation. If you exchange a few words with me in Spanish I might sound fluent, what you don't notice is me only saying 10% of what I really want to say #langsky

I did a humbling exercise to test my language skills. I picked a simple sentence in my first language, and tried to translate it into as many languages I could. I failed in all languages but Russian. Even in English I made a spelling mistake and hesitated with articles! #langsky

I think I found a solution to my focus problem. I'll keep Spanish as my permanent focus as it's my most important language for practical reasons, and I'll have a second language each week that I try to learn as much as I can until the week ends. If I can't choose, I'll leave it to a picker wheel 😄

Spanish B1 to (confident/B2)
Japanese ?? to (can speak)
Swedish A2 to B1
Mandarin A1 to A2
Italian (forgotten) to (I remember now)
Lithuanian B1 to (more confident)
