Just finished 11/23/63 (the series) and thought it a quite poignant take on the dangers of desiring to change the past and the wisdom of approaching life through the bird’s-eye lens of philosophy of history instead. One of the few King shows that lives up to the novel!

The public execution of two peaceful, caring, public-minded US citizens by ICE in the streets of Minneapolis this month is the lowest my government has stooped in my lifetime. I can only pray for justice and hope the conscience of our country will recalibrate in the wake of these awful martyrdoms.

The woman who took wedding photos with her PhD certificate—there’s a truth to it. To paraphrase Taylor, people will let you down, but your PhD (ie, your education, Eras Tour, or other grand intellectual-artistic accomplishment) never will.

How do I get a West End Girl meme of myself? Really love the original as well as the Brooklyn Beckham iteration! Also, it needs to be done for Taylor in her Father Figure video that I will be directing (thank you).

So many great lines in 11/23/63 the series: “The hardest thing about living in the past, is that everything you tell everybody will be a lie.” And my favorite bit of Kingian wisdom: “If you f@&$ with the past, the past will f&@$ with you.”

Survived my son’s first Pokemon trading card show! So much fun for the kids, so much stress for the moms! But, in good news, clearly Smith’s micro-markets of sympathy towards strangers are still operating in Midwestern America.

Watching 11/23/63 on Netflix—quite good and seems to capture the pathos of the novel, one of my favorites by King.

A rare first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865), annotated by Lewis Carroll and illustrated by John Tenniel, has been jointly acquired by Christ Church, Oxford and the Bodleian Libraries!

My two best Christmas presents ever! An official signed 1989 era TS photo & my new edition of MWS’s ‘The Last Man & The Journal of Sorrow’ (in which I cite TS in the introduction). Both arrived today to honor 2026 (coincidentally bicentennial of TLM/JoS and wedding of TS)!

In better news from the Stephen King universe, ‘The End Times’ is worth the subscription. Fun concept: bring back the serial & the small town newspaper all at once in a post-apocalyptic plague novel.

Oh why did Castle Rock season one have to go off the rails from a fairly realistic take on small town evil into crazy time travel/interdimensional travel narrative nonsense? O give me plot linearity! And a puzzle that can actually be resolved!

I remembered that Stephen King’s “The Mist” has a military base and a fog much like “Welcome to Derry”. “The Mist” was set in Bridgton, ME so the former Brunswick Naval AFB could be the inspiration (not Limestone AFB) for ‘Welcome to Derry’. #StephenKingGeography

Just started season one Castle Rock and it’s very small town Maine so far.

The greatest thing about the linear experience of time is that one can never actually go back and relive the past.

A break from Christmas content to enjoy this capybara eating a banana. From François Froger's 'A relation of a voyage ...' (London, 1698).

Rest in Peace Rob Reiner, who made some real screen gems, including my favorites “When Harry Met Sally” and “Stand by Me”. Will be watching both this week as a tribute to his cinematic optimism.

Finished “Welcome to Derry” season one—can’t wait for the next two seasons going back in time to see Pennywise in 1935 and 1908. A clever conceit for a horror series.

Started the 2024 Salem’s Lot film and it does not disappoint! So much fear and trembling that I can only watch a few minutes at a time, despite knowing the plot backwards and forwards.
