I do not know how to make a cogent argument in 300 characters and don't really like tit-for-tat, so I am not sure what I am doing here. Also I am a lefty who likes dogs and science and home cooked food.
Every 20th of July, Germany honours, as examples of "the better Germany", the guys who literally planted a bomb for the head of state, so opposition to political violence does not have to be absolute but can be measured in degrees of separation to Adolf Hitler. Still, better don't shoot people.

There is no mystery here. Per conservative ideology, the world is created via an act of will by a person with a penis. Contradicting this by claiming that there are things such as facts or science or objective reality makes you in their eyes automatically a left wing radical.

I found this chain on 8.8.25 on the ascent to the Col de la Bonnette in the Alps. A pet name is engraved on the side. Anyone who knows it will get it back.

“We’re beyond waiting and seeing now…”

“We have a consolidating dictatorship in our country.”

And we are against it.

So we’ll fight Abbott in TX. We’ll fight masked kidnappers, we’ll fight extortion in the WH, and quisling Republicans in Congress.

Maddow: U.S. profoundly changed by authoritarian leader; 'We're beyond waiting and seeing now'
Rachel Maddow points out that the thing most Americans were dreading has come to pass, and the United States has changed profoundly in only six months of authoritarian rule. "We have a consolidating d...

On the state of evidence based medicine: a doctor basically accused me being a junkie for taking medication a colleague of his had prescribed. Still convinced of a scientific approach, but sometimes I understand people who "do their own research" because irl there seems a lot of guesswork anyway.

German AfD was designated "gesichert rechtsextremistisch", "assuredly right wing extremist", by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Now parliament or government would have to go to court to have them banned. Not holding my breath here. www.verfassungsschutz.de/SharedDocs/p...

In one of his AMAs, @seanmcarroll.bsky.social suggested Google scholar as one step in a process to ascertain if a person is an expert in their field. How do I weigh popular science books against peer reviewed papers? What if the books meant for laypersons have more citations than the papers? Wdyt?

I have now been taking #methylphenidate for three months. I don't feel better anymore when I am taking it, I just feel a lot worse when for a day or two I don't. Is that how it is supposed to feel? That would be not so great.

It's been almost three months now that I last bought at Amazon. This was not even meant as a politicial statement, just an attempt at keeping a budget. Not being exposed to one click buy buttons did save a lot of money. If I compare prices first, I often end up not buying at all. So it does 1/2

As long as universities continue to have their main role be "ticket to middle class," it'd be insane to expect them to serve classical liberal education functions. It's too late, but I think things would be a lot better if job-prep and preserving the Great Conversation were separate institutions.
