A few months ago I had the chance of photographing the Central-American eyelash-pitviper (Bothriechis nigroadspersus).

Even though the nigroadspersus is the most common of the Bothriechis genus found in Costa Rica, the range of different colors they have makes it a fascinating subject.

One of my favorites, the Squirrel cuckoo (piaya cayana). It’s been a while since the last time I spotted one.

Andean Cock-of-the-rock
🧬 Rupicola peruvianus

A bird I really wanted to see and what an amazing experience it was to watch it lekking in the forests of Ecuador.

One of the most beautiful toucans I’ve ever seen, the Plate-billed mountain toucan.

I have photos with better composition but for reason I really like this one.

One of the rarest and most difficult birds to spot. The Long-wattled Umbrellabird (Cephalopterus penduliger) inhabits the undisturbed rainforests of western Ecuador and Colombia. The last bird I saw and the one that bid me farewell on my trip to Ecuador.

The Snail Kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis) is such a very interesting raptor. Watching it hunt snails and use its sickle-like bill is fascinating.

Sharks are essential for biodiversity. Here’s how:

🦈 They regulate fish populations
🐟 They prevent prey species from overgrazing habitats
🌿 They protect coral reefs and seagrass beds
🌊 They keep marine food webs in balance
