For those of you interested in how organisms measure time, have a look at work with Jacob Dayton showing evidence that period, a core circadian clock gene, helps control daily and seasonal timing. Preprint on bioRxiv: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
The period gene alters daily and seasonal timing in Ostrinia nubilalis
The timing of insects' daily (feeding, movement) and seasonal (diapause, migration) rhythms affects their population dynamics and distribution. Yet, despite their implications for insect conservation ...

Last night, on the corner of Alewife Brook Parkway and Powderhouse Boulevard, my older daughter was struck by a driver.

She was crossing in the crosswalk – with the WALK signal – and the car ran the red light. Miraculously, she was okay and walked away with nothing worse than a bruise.

tl;dr — this EO co-opts the language of open science to implement a system of political control wherein presidential appointees are given broad latitude to designate any number of reasonable scientific activities and inferences as scientific misconduct, and to penalize those involved accordingly.
