They are two different people. The spokesperson is a person from the spokesperson service. My point that they were contradicting each other would have been less relevant had it all come from one person.

Plus citing one person two different ways in the same article is a major no no.

Rule number one of crisis comms: put everything out there. Yet it's hard not to conclude that one of these two people, Commission senior official Sannino or anonymous spokesperson, is being deliberately misleading here.

I truly do find it sad and maddening that the EU’s top court wasted four years of its time having to reject this Commission official’s grubby attempt to claw back extra special money he was never owed - a spurious demand at best
