Impression from great #ncde conference by #oslomet: So many great papers getting mixed up in my mind. Democratic competetion cancel neg. effects of inequality. Market activity will be the variable replacing night light data. And so much more. +best way to enjoy Oslo is in a sauna and the fjord.

This is crazy.
🚨NEW: A French scientist had his laptop searched at the US border & was sent back to Europe after private messages were found criticising Trump.

He was accused of messages which “can be described as terrorism”.

This is what a slide into FASCISM looks like.

Since the US has turned, the least we - and all americans who disagree with the turn - can do, is to increase our support for Ukraine. There are many ways of doing this, and donating through @u24.gov.ua is one: u24.gov.ua

I wonder how long until the UN will have to move its headquarters (voluntarily or not)?
Breaking news: U.S. sides with Russia to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning Moscow for the Ukraine war.

Washington’s dramatic shift on the conflict marks a major break with its European allies and coincides with the Trump administration’s bid to repair relations with the Kremlin.

Enormous good news for health, well-being, and economic prosperity in the countries with high malaria prevalence. This is mostly sub-Saharan Africa where over 90% of cases and deaths occur. Of these deaths, the vast majority are in kids under 5 years old, which could now be substantially reduced.

In the midst of all of the scary headlines recently, I thought I could take a moment to share a bit of good news: for the first time in history, a malaria vaccine with >90% efficacy seems to be within reach!

Here’s why that’s a really big deal for EVERYONE 🧵

‘Moving fast and breaking things’ looks cool to internet bros and historically illiterate Jacobins.

But stable political order is the bedrock of our national prosperity, as Nobel laureate Douglass North and other economists show.

That is why we reject extremism.
