Can't go wrong with a song imploring folks to get off the heron. Even better if it's fonky, the drummer is flashing, and the bass is extra syncopated. Add some funky guitar, a dash of horns and piano chords jumping back and forth in the stereo field. I might be high off this joint 😅.

A smoke filled 70s lounge cover of one of my favorite joints, dadgummiteta. Makes me wanna dance with the back of my hands on my hips. Smooth horns, sassy vocals, funky wah guitar, some disco strings, understated bass, all make for a succulent groove.

Random lyrics off the album v11:
"They get offended, when I get offended
When they say something offensive, now who's that on?
Well I won't bow down to nary a man,
'Cause I'm a goddamn Bay Area man"

"So I can listen to adult contemporary music.... cranked up to 3".
This irreverent song is good for a few chuckles. Vocals are very clear which makes the amusing lyrics easy to understand. And this song is all about the lyrics. Definitely worth a listen.

Never knew that there were Japanese artists making new jack swing back in the day 😅
Erina - Franky [Japan ; J-pop / R&B] (1992) "Real Name: 村田 恵里 (Murata Eri)." Also went by the alias Hashimoto Maiko (橋本 舞子), providing vocals for two tracks in the Bubblegum Crisis OVA.

"Oh well that's life, or it was".
Cold blooded (to quote Mr. Rick James)
Matter of fact delivery over a classic country/western bass with some freaky squeaky fiddle in the background gives this tune a cool feeling...

I'll never not love wah pedals.

Sounds like a deep cut I would have heard on the Sunday night oldies show, they used to play around these parts. Smooth, spacey, soulful, just a nice vibe and some creative arrangements.

This is a delightful little jaunty tune, mixing ukulele(?) and synths. Something I'd use as background music for a children's show. Can't believe it has a "club mix" though... what club is playing this, even in 1985? 😆

Come for the precision in the brass section. Stay for the ridiculous range of the vocalist. And don't sleep on the hand percussion, it's not the focal point, but it's dope.

Reminds me I need to go listen to some Kurt Blow. It's been too long since Iistened to The Breaks.

Folks that are not from the bay prolly won't recognize this flow as being quintessentially early 90s bay shit. Got me bumping my shoulders with the presumably Roger/Zapp sample. Back when hip hop tracks had to have that DJ scratch in them.

This is the type of joint I should play while I'm grocery shopping. A little bit droney, a little bit repetitive, but with a cool as flute solo (panned left) and groovy guitar solo (panned right). Would make me feel super confident in my food purchases 😂

Random lyrics off the album v10:
"Gimme more ammunition yeah, gimme more motivation;
Don't gimme no inhibition naw, don't gimme not hesitation;
Just gimme my standing ovation deserve it or not, I'm up in the spot;
You prolly didn't realize the way that I rock but I'm giving you all that I got;"

This sparse, eerie, drum machine backed Czech track from the 80s is pretty interesting. The trumpet interjections took me by surprise. The video is somehow mesmerizing also.
