I just thought about him yesterday. He was an amazing actor and a link to the golden age of Japanese cinema. Is anyone left from that generation?
Renowned actor Tatsuya Nakadai, best known for his role in Akira Kurosawa’s “Ran,” has died at the age of 92.

I always loved the poster and I'm glad they used it for the cover. Delightful black and white schlock.

Do you read Sutter Cane? I know I will...

This just arrived. The actual book from the movie, made real. I hope it's good, but it's a cool collectors item either way.

Great release by @echohorror.com

A nice lenticular box set. Been a Chucky fan forever, although the last movie in the series wasn't much to my liking.

Lenticular cover by Jason Fabok. Unfortunately not signed, but still gorgeous.

Rewatch after probably 20 years. Absolute classic. Mifune does unhinged characters so well. Nowadays there is nothing left of the famous gate. Just a marker in a kid's playground where it used to stand long ago...

Shinoda gives us a more subtle and low key Yakuza film from what we're used to experiencing via Fukasaku or Gosha. It's beautifully filmed in Nouvelle Vague fashion, so if you are into Truffaut or Godard, you'll probably appreciate this.

A fun double feature. The first one is the better movie, but it's worth seeing both. I like ghost stories as a little break from gore and violence.

Before Hunger Games, The Purge and the 2024 Election, there was Battle Royale; Kinji Fukasaku's final film. The failure of humanity, depicted through unapologetic, concise bursts of violence; appropriately helmed by Fukasaku's cinematic heir Takeshi Kitano.

It feels like part King Kong, part Jurassic Park, part dogshit. What it doesn't feel like is #Godzilla. The effects hold up well. The Brooklyn Bridge scene is excellent. The rest, however... No. I hate the story the casting and especially the 200 baby Godzillas.

A 5 movie collection about Japanese young delinquents who ride motorcycles and fight... Or something. The camera moves quite unusually at times and I even liked the songs. While my main draw here was Meiko Kaji, I discovered Akiko Wada and need more now...

You'd never expect the French to adapt this book into a movie, but it actually worked. This was pretty famous when I was a kid, but I didn't actually see it until decades later. No matter how bad the dog is, the human always turns out to be the bigger monster

Bought this a long time ago, but waited to find part 4. Turns out it's a prequel with Radu's origin story and I could have just watched it. It's a decent #vampire movie in itself. The transfer is significantly better than the new release of part 4. It's unbelievable.

This was finally rereleased, so I can continue the saga of Radu. It's cheaply made and makes the first movie look like a Spielberg production, but I'm just curious where it goes. Unfortunately the video quality is abysmal. Probably the worst bluray transfer I've ever seen.

I've seen this movie many times but didn't actually own a physic copy. I almost got the US steelbook, but this one looked so much better to me. I'm excited to see it in UHD. Adrian Lyne is one my favorite directors.

Nice looking Mexican haunted house feature from 1963. Jump scares, ghosts in mirrors, a disfigured servant, screams from faraway rooms, rats evil dogs, cobwebs; the whole package. You've seen a movie like this at least ten times. That's no reason to not see it again.

Two Sonny Chiba movies directed by Teruo Ishii, who's toned it down significantly in comparison to his torture movies. It's kitschy martial arts fun, more reminiscent of Hong Kong than Japanese cinema.
