I’m glad you can appreciate the lack of a conclusive ending. Ranma’s reaction to Akane’s question, for many, felt like a large fumble back in maturity. It’s ok that you want this ending, and it’s ok that others yearned for more. The remake’s elevation of their romance is why ppl love Mappa’s take.

Those categories don’t have to be mutually exclusive, nor do people need to fit a prescribed response to the conclusion.

What makes it so difficult to accept that other people feel unsatisfied with the ending? Not everyone will have the same opinions. Many wished they were open/honest about their feelings to each other.

It’s Takahashi’s decision to end it on that note where Ranma frustratingly/comically denies his feelings; that’s just a conclusion that left much to be desired for many fans.

Yep! And there’s a few storylines in the manga where she unintentionally becomes OP and is stronger than Ranma (to his frustration). Read the manga, it’s great! Only $2/month with Viz.

Without spoiling too much, there is the brocade butterfly arc that introduces a character whose cursed form has a big age gap from their true age. The curses are inconsistent, there’s no logic to it 😅

We just want some character development at the end 😭

Oh boy it was pretty empty when I went, I was the only customer 😅 the storefront looks restocked. Nice that they provided complimentary postcards and a paper coaster.

Oh yay! BOX cafe&space KITTE? I’m going there today! Hope they still have good merch to buy!

Which location was this in?

Oh the Mandarin was very fluent and cute with the English VA. I wish the staff made Shampoo’s Japanese VA take a few Chinese speech lessons so her Chinese lines sounded more authentic.

What did you think of the English dub’s Mandarin?

Are you listening to the Japanese or English dubs?

Off topic but one more scene that I wished they had depicted in the remake: Ranma’s thought bubble when he got hit by Akane’s ball as he got distracted thinking about how cute she looked. “It’ll never work.” He liked her from the start but was psyching himself out of it since she liked Dr. Tofu.

I would say Akane was listening, and the turning point was Ranma’s message, which Akane understood clearly: he expressed that he wanted to get to know Shampoo. If my person was telling a potential love interest that, I’d be pretty irate too.

He seemingly consents in the end and always has the physical upper hand with Shampoo, having defeated her multiple times. Which is why it’s frustrating for Akane to watch him consent to getting to know Shampoo in the end.

In Rumiko Takahashi’s world, girls shut down unwanted physical advances by creating immediate distance (usually by violence). You’ll see this with Akane and her suitors, Shampoo and Mousse, Happosai and the girls he chases. They don’t loiter like Ranma does.

Yeah I do wish they did more translations of the Japanese text too. Like I didn’t know the ribbons Ryoga and Ranma were writing into the air in the gymnastics arc were different ways of saying idiot.

Read the manga, it’s very enjoyable! You’ll see Rumiko’s kind version of Akane a lot better

How should Akane give Ranma the benefit of the doubt when he didn’t kick Shampoo into the stratosphere like they do with Kuno? His actions speak louder than words for her, and Ranma does a very bad job of convincing anyone around him he’s uninterested in Shampoo. His own dad had to run interference

Agreed. Akane is prone to violent outbursts but she never does it to people she considers weak. Men are outsizedly strong in the series. Whatever she dishes to Ranma, usually is a reaction to something caustic he’s said. Her violence doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

Akane watches as Ranma reacts in a way totally different than how she would have acted if a guy put moves on her.

Ranma’s mouth is moving but his body say… “maybe?”

Ain’t no shame in Akane establishing boundaries.

Try reading the manga, it’s only $2/month for a Viz sub. Ranma may say one thing, but his body’s passivity says another. If you saw your partner saying they were uninterested in a person, wouldn’t you expect their body language to also represent that same desire to push them off?
December 15, 2024 at 7:52 PM
If you had a partner who initially batted someone off but then seemingly welcomed the attention, would you feel like what they said at first still held true? Feelings can change, and from Akane’s POV, Ranma’s feelings for Shampoo were evolving.

Is telling Shampoo that they should get to know each other explicit rejection? Akane would’ve never done that with another guy. She’s the most honest about her emotions; she knew she was starting to like Ranma, but seeing him allowing himself to be available to another girl was a betrayal.
