Come join us @iepolisci.bsky.social!

This dept has one of the healthiest environments I've found in academia.

Plus, everyone does brilliant work and you get to live in a great city with a salary that allows you to enjoy it.

We only work in English, so language is not an issue.

Apply!
🚨🚨 We’re hiring! 🚨🚨

We have 3 lines open in CP, IR and IPE — all tenure-track.

We offer competitive salaries, a 2:1 teaching load, in a friendly (and fully in English) environment, at one of Europe’s most sought-after cities.

Great forum to present some work and get some feedback if you have a paper on anything on African politics. Given its virtual format, it's a great place for junior scholars and scholars based on the continent to do an hour long workshop-style discussion of a paper!

Quick update time: I'll be starting as a Lecturer (AP) in African Politics at the University of St Andrews in Jan 2026. If you're in Edinburgh/Fife/Scotland, let me know: I'm always looking for friends. I'm excited to keep up my work on land/SA with a supportive community and great students!

I'm finalizing revisions on a conditional accept today. In the paper I grapple with segregation and land reform in South Africa. My late advisor, Nic van de Walle, always asked of my work "where's the politics?". To some extent I assumed the politics of race was evident in land in South Africa.

New blog post by our Fellow @dyzenhaus.bsky.social refuting Trump's recent claims about South Africa
⬇️
I've written my thoughts down about one of Trump's many executive orders: condemning South Africa on baseless grounds.

South Africa's Expropriation Act does not constitute anything other than a regular piece of legislation.

Trump has punished South Africa for something its government has not done
The US president has claimed the South African government is seizing land from white farmers. The reality is much more mundane

Has anyone in the US government even read South Africa's Expropriation Act? It starts by reaffirming property rights by citing S.25 of the Constitution. Chapter 5 (p.28) then outlines a comprehensive compensation mechanism for landholder.
