On this day in 1994, Sue Rodriguez chose to end her life and suffering with the assistance of an anonymous doctor after the Supreme Court of Canada ruled against her request for a legal assisted death. Her courageous fight helped spark a national movement for end-of-life rights. (1/3)

Supporter Lynn McCartney's father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Facing worsening symptoms and not wanting to suffer any more, he began the process of applying for MAID. Just two weeks before his 90th birthday, he had the peaceful death he desired, surrounded by his loving family. (1/3)
