This is Palet, the TTRPG setting I've been working on for Summoner Saga. Palet was designed with the mythical creatures and beings of our world in mind, rather than DnD.

The Ceryneian Hind was a giant doe who functioned as the target for one of Heracles’ labors. I chose to depict her as a reindeer due to the theory that she was inspired by tales of them. Don’t stick around the nose, because it can snort fire.

This is the goat of Amalthea, the nymph who raised the infant Zeus on Crete. She would also go on to supply her horn for the cornucopia and her hide for his aegis. Pseudo-Eratosthenes said she was the daughter of Helios.

With the demons and angels out of the way, we move onto our next section: Hellenistic creatures! I
Our is the Laestrygonian giant. Though cannibalism is usually their most notable aspect in other texts, in the Odyssey they’re more associated with cattle-farming.

I didn’t want to re-invent the wheel with its design. It has horns via this quote from Johanan bar Nappaha: “saw a fish which put his head out of the water. He had horns upon which was written: 'I am one of the meanest creatures that inhabit the sea.’”.

'They are basically friendly to humans and their ilk (dwarves, elves, halflings), but because they are shy, they are seldom seen and favor quiet, pastoral areas in which to dwell. If encountered on good terms, brownies can often be convinced to help lawful good characters.'

From the smallest creature I've drawn for the monster manual to one of the largest of summoner saga's! The behemoth has traits from various megafauna, including rhinos, hippos, bulls, and sauropods.

"Small mole-like animals which inhabit most places above and below ground, brain moles are attracted by psionic activity of any sort - including magic spells which duplicate psionic effects."

These tropical beasts are aggressive only if their territory is threatened or if cornered or threatened. They make two slashing attacks with their large tusks. Male and female fight equally.

These require some explaining. In the evolution Christianity, there was some ambiguity around the concept of Hell. One of its predecessors was the Abyss, or in Hebrew, Tehom. This was an unfathomable void which existed before the creation of the world. 1/

These are angels which fell from heaven, crashing and burning before falling into the icy lakes of hell where their charred remains are never allowed to thaw and heal. Their hatred is strong enough to seep through the eternal ice to curse others.

The king of the flies is a mostly faithful recreation of the Dictionnaire Infernal woodcut, because it is an iconic look. I decided to modify it a bit to make it more fly-like, as the original is more of a hymenopteran rather than a dipteran.

I decided to use the ambiguity of their appearance to draw them as the grotesque demons of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Human and animal parts all melded together in a mockery of creation.

Dante’s version, not the Greek one. He’s kind of just a glorified boat. I wanted to explore the “monster of fraud” angle by making the rides not what they seem. Geryons stalk roads and cliffs, offering rides to passersby. Anyone gullible to accept is taken deeper into Hell.

I combined the figure of Baphomet with all the Goetic demons (like Furfur and Stolas) for simplicity’s sake.

This is an original demon, representing greed. Babies demand food, sometimes at the detriment of their parents. Of course, babies don’t know what’s going on around them, but they’ll still cry for food regardless. It throws fits unless it is propitiated with gold.

The big man depicted below is technically not Eurynomos. I’ve chosen to use the image of Charun, from Etruscan mythology, as the basis for my drawing.

This fiend received their own bestiary entry not too long ago, so I won’t harp on them too much.

"This prehistoric forerunner of the wild boar is also very aggressive. If 3 or more are encountered there is only a 25% chance that there will be young (2-6 hit dice, 1-4/2-5/2-7/2-8/3-12 hit points damage/attack) numbering from 1-4 of the total herd."

Now we move on to the diabolical side of the coin… Imps are tiny demons and that’s pretty much it. All three of these designs are based on figures from Hieronymus Bosch’s works.

These celestial creatures only show up in the Second Book of Enoch where they live around the sun. Chalkydri are described as having the heads of crocodiles, lion feet, twelve wings, and a rainbow color.

This is one of two echo fighters for the seraph. The reason the uraeus is connected to the seraph is the ambiguity around that type of angelic being and snakes. The fiery flying serpent referred to as a seraph especially resembles the Egyptian symbol.
