Put this rapier together from a 45” Castille blade, a pommel and Thibault-style guard from Darkwood, and a grip that I made from PVC pipe, thermoplastic, and stingray leather.

Me: “Can you give me research leave?”
ODU: “To study AI?”
Me: “Yeeeeeess.”
me: [Actually researches Renaissance and Early Modern occult martial technologies, like a boss.]

(Related: I made this 7’ x 7’ “cercle mysterieux” from instructions in Gerard Thibault’s 1630 rapier manuscript.)

OpenAI is a particularly amazing example of the problem AI has which is that the only way to convince people to use it is to make it do things which make it more expensive, but which nobody in their right minds would ever pay for

Apple hid content & privacy options relating to #AI under "Screen Time" under settings. Content and privacy have NOTHING to do with screen time. Filing the former in the latter hides options so that Apple can steal our content to feed their plagiarism-ecocide machines. #books #history #artstory

These new AI summaries are going to help me be so much more productive. Also, bonus: neither of these texts is about a bird or about napping, so that’s exciting.

Q: "What did you find most interesting or surprising in the syllabus?"

Student: "It wasn't boring like most syllabi, but still annoying since there's a quiz."

Grading comment: "I think "annoying, but at least not boring" is a healthy and attainable goal for me in many aspects of my life."

Talking to a student after class; heard something and froze.

Student: "What is it?"
Me: [waiting another 5 seconds]
Me: "Nothing I guess. It's just very ominous to suddenly hear a pitch pipe from the hallway."
