Just as the rain begins, so does my head cold. Perfect timing. My dearest wish is for the mountains to pile high with snow. #rainyday

Horsegirl Sunday: what an exquisite morning, the perfect mix of clouds and golden light glinting off the dewy grass. I mucked with Stacy and Melissa in the perfect temperature in the green hills. I did all 13 stalls happily because I was cool & relaxed. I wish all mornings were this. #horses

Horsegirl Workout: Since I am so out of shape from losing Brina's trot-and-canter lessons, this is my exercise:

HG Wednesday: While mucking in the rain, I about my fun former lessons with the fast speed & fierce muscle workout, riding hard w/ my hair blown back, but I don't miss how exhausted & hungry I would be after. My new instructor is all about seat & leg and focused on equitation. No sweat. #horses

Horsegirl Tuesday: Stick was cooperative, but I need to unlearn so much reining technique. Brina was a barrel racer, she taught me to pull on reins for two years. Sherry explained that turning the horses head engages the ribcage or the haunches, not the shoulders. Use leg & seat only. #horses

HG Sunday: Patrick the mini was lying flat in his stall, looks like colic. Melissa had me walk him around outside so his intestines did not tangle up, and he was panting and stopping a lot, wanting to lay down. Finally he passed manure & he felt like his old self, but this is colic season. #horses

Horsegirl Thoughts: Saturday Trainer cancelled, so I am glad I rode already this week. This used to upset me, but now I have so many options I never miss much saddle time. Only when it gets muddy, but rain was canceled this winter. If I had my own horse there would still be downtime. #horses

Horsegirl Thursday: Rode a new horse named Nyla who was very tall & moved like a mountain. It was good when she got going, & it was good when the clouds rolled in. Karissa is always easy on me, and I was thankful to be back in the covered arena, but I should pull back to 2 lessons a week. #horses

HG Wednesday: Just farm work on a hot morning. I did a lot of the usual hefting & hauling but it wore me out in this heat. The beautiful bay pinto named Jackie is gone, Amanda moved her to San Dimas. No more Amanda, no more Sayeed. Stacy is there, and she works hard, but I do miss them. #horses

HG Tuesday: Today's lesson w/ New Instructor went SO much better & I am relieved that I don't suck. Once again I rode Stick but this time everything worked & my confidence is back. To fill you in, I am learning Cowboy Dressage. It's done w/ western gear but classical methods and it's harder. #horses

Horsegirl Sunday: Mucked stalls in the hot sun, even though it was only 8 am. What is this winter, I did not agree to live on Tatooine. Horses were fine, even in their shaggy coats. It's been three weeks since my surgery and I am mostly ok but so sick of bandages. #horses

Horsegirl Saturday: I need to borrow spurs for my cowboy boots, but the right one got loose mid-ride so Stella did not lope correctly to the left. She kept breaking down to a trot until my trainer diagnosed the equipment failure. Also, I wore my new helmet sun visor in this heat wave. #horses

I was so proud of this in 2000 or whenever Crouching Tiger came out. The horse is ok but his tack is all wrong and he has heels up. Is the blanket held on with that thick girth strap? I nearly got the bridle to look like a halter. Also half the grass was made in Photoshop using the smear tool. #art

HG Thursday: Nothing happened with horses, but I finally got my cowboy boots repaired and they fit like a dream. They are designed for spurs so I can wear them (at long last) to my lessons. No more borrowing because western spurs do not fit my English paddock boots, I am officially Cowgirl. #boots

Horsegirl Wednesday: After I mucked and swept at Therapy Stables I got a text from yesterday's trainer and I decided to try again. No one is making me do this, I could find an easier hobby, but I would always know I gave up when it got hard. #horses

Horsegirl Tueday: Well that was terrible. And here I thought I was a good rider, but I could hardly ride that horse at all. Not being allowed to use reins isn't the worst of it, I couldn't do anything right- just one big fail. Makes me question everything I know. #horses

HG Monday: Riding lesson after work, on Sterling the Tennessee Walker. Once again he did not EVER get the right lead leg when loping right. Only left. Otherwise he was a dream, and we trotted over poles & did figure 8s and it was smooth riding. My one mistake was leaning my shoulders a tad. #horses

HG Sunday: Worked on the farm with a mask on my face, yet again. Huffing & puffing and the mask gets all wet and gross from my breath. Oh well! Horses do not judge, and neither does Melissa. It's my happy place, I'm getting muscles back, and now it's time to hide from the sun. #horses #surgery

HG Saturday: Muscles are weak from resting, but I did all the things & rode Stella the best I could. She is tricky at the lope, if I touch her even slightly w/ my inside leg she switches leads. Frustrating! I was just trying to get her back on the rail...this keeps happening. Is it me? #horses

Another file on my cluttered hard drive. When did I draw this? Why did I add type? #dogs

HG Wednesday: While doing my farm chores at Therapy Stables I ran into Stacy (from the Senior Center) who works there now, mucking and hauling just like me. I did not recognized her at first because her hair is brown, but we caught up on old times. Small world. #horses #volunteer
