HG Friday: To make up for yesterday being too easy, I worked 2 hours mucking and hauling & dumping wheelbarrows. Amanda told me she is leaving in two months for cheaper stables in San Dimas and I am :( Too many horse people are leaving, and more stables will be turned into bland housing. #horses

And this year I got a notice from the DMV that I need to renew my license. In big bold letters, TWICE, it states that I have to go in person. Is this worse than jury duty? Because I also got that letter. #happynewyear

Happy New Year Horsegirl: Yes I mucked in the rain. Felt bad about missing yesterday, so I helped Amanda out for an hour but she is just as fast as I am. All done. No one can ride in the mud, nothing horsey left to do until tomorrow. Is this the Year? Will Megan finally get her pony? #yearofthehorse

HG Weekend: Most stables since the rain are slip-and-slides so I did not ride, I mucked in the morning chill. My hands were numb & barely worked. In addition to shoveling manure, I groomed muddy Patrick the mini. He is so shaggy this time of year, it was like brushing a 100 lb. hamster. #horses

2025 was an eventful year, but I can't talk about work. My free time was packed with horse stables and I filled a sketchbook with ballpoint drawings and I roadtripped to Colorado with Roz, again. I rode a mechanical bull, I got Covid, I played in the snow, I swam, I did my best. #yearendwrapup

HG Tuesday: It's hard to describe that elation of speeding on a thoroughbred. She was in rare spirits due to cool weather so the mare took off on the fastest trot I have ever ridden- what a blast! I had forgotten extended trot can be faster than canter, and she proved it. Easy, girl! #horses

So today I will just focus on- what's that? I have to make broccoli casserole for Xmas eve? And we're eating at 2 pm?? #stress

HG thoughts: I am closely watching the weather for next week's rain, because I might miss a riding lesson and also the therapy stables will need more help. But snow on the mountains! For Xmas! Oh how I live vicariously through horse YouTubers on their Colorado ranches... #horses #envy #snow

HG Tuesday: Fast canter on the mare, really fun until we did diagonals across the arena. Picture a huge figure 8 but the trick is 1) keeping the horse on a straight line across the dirt and 2) changing lead legs in the middle. Lots of transitions to trot & back up to lope, a "simple change." #horses

HG Thoughts: My hyper fixation on all things horse is a perfect parallel to when I was a kid and got my first aquarium. I became obsessed with fish & read every book I could find and daydreamed about fish tanks and what new species I could acquire. It lasted for decades, & I still have a tank. #pets

Horsegirl Thoughts: Riding Buck today, it was all western reining & not the two-handed English style I prefer. The cues are different and I want to use English but it confuses the horse. I sometimes think I should make the leap to Full English riding but then I would have to buy those pants. #horses

HG Thoughts: I read (well, skimmed) an article that explained how do-gooders are hated because talking about charity work makes them unlikeable. Whoops. That was never my jam, I just love talking about ranch work because it's fun & I look forward to it all week. Genuinely cringing at my gaff.

HG Wednesday: They fired the Compton guy, so I was needed at the therapy stables. Two hours of huffing and puffing, I was done in... it sucks that he is gone, but I must look really good at this point. One whole year of solid volunteer work, someone should just give me a pony. #horses
