These photographs show Pte John Willmott of the 1st Battalion
Royal Highlanders.

The story goes that he kept trying to enlist whilst under-age, and finally the recruiting sergeant had John's father permission in writing and he was enlisted.

Earlier this year we marked the 100 year anniversary of the unveiling of the Dundee War Memorial.

We thought we would reshare the original plans for the memorial on its 101st Armistice Day.

Back in 1918 one of our volunteers did a little research into a special item in our collections - The Works Department Roll of Honour. You can read more about the document, including the list on men who appear on it here:

Another #WhereisitWednesday for you. We aren't 100% sure where this was taken. It is part of collection of images taken for postcards in the 1920s. It might be Dundee but then again it might not. Do you have any suggestions on where it could be?

Today is Samhain, All Hallow's Eve, or Hallowe'en. So we thought it appropriate to re-share this post about 2 documents which mention accused witches in Dundee. You can even have a go at trying to read them - I warn you they are fiendishly difficult...
The Witches of Dundee
Some of you may have heard the name Grissell Jaffray. She was executed in Dundee for being a witch in 1669. This was the last execution of a witch in Dundee. Just how many there were before her, we…

The location of where this photograph was taken is unknown. It comes from a family collection, but there is no information noted on who they are or when it was taken.

The number plate on the car shows it to have a London registration.

Street of the Week: Milnbank Road

This street originally ran off the Scouringburn (now Brook Street) but was later extended to meet City Road. This area was originally part of the Logie estate. The land was sold off in 1829 to a Robert Miln.

Now I think I know where this was taken, but I want to see if anyone else comes to the same conclusion. It was probably taken in the late 19th century so may look quite a bit different now. Any thoughts? #WhereisitWednesday
