The earliest documentation we found of this road is from John Wood’s 1821 map of Dundee, which shows 2 lone houses on the street, likely belonging to its namesake, the Shepherd family (who were Shepherds only by name, not profession).

It was reported by the City Engineer on 26th October 1971 that the bridge was in a dangerous condition and was to be demolished. This photograph probably dates from shortly afterwards.

The Rex Cinema opened in 1913 as the Pavilion Picture Theatre. In 1928 J B Milne bought it, after a refurb in 1951, he renamed the cinema Rex after his pet Labrador.
