With some of the “analysis” floating around these days, sometimes I wonder if the best use of my time is simply tattooing “SHOW ME THE COUNTERFACTUAL” on my forehead.

Pay for gym? Cholesterol normal. Cut my gym membership? Cholesterol up 20 points! Great spending to “not see any progress.”

College closures have been in the news lately, and especially in the greater Philly area. @dougwebberecon.bsky.social and @robertkelchen.com and I have been working on improving on existing methods for predicting closures — and financial distress more generally — in higher ed. Check out the paper!
