The Deep Sea Mining Campaign works to stop deep sea mining before it starts. We combine research, advocacy, and frontline solidarity to protect our ocean and the communities who depend on it.
⚠️ DSM causes ecological damage.
A recent study in Nature found 37% less density and 32% less species diversity of seafloor animals at a deep sea mining (DSM) test site.

🤯 The deep ocean is just a few degrees above freezing worldwide.
Life here is adapted to cold, stable conditions, not sudden disturbance or industrial discharge.

Pacific leaders are being promised income from deep sea mining amid climate and economic pressure. But the ocean underpins food security, livelihoods, and culture.
Many Pacific leaders and scientists are calling for a moratorium.

🤯 Mindblown Monday: Siphonophores aren’t a single animal, but colonies made up of thousands of tiny, specialised clones working together as one drifting organism.
Deep sea mining would disturb the calm, clear water layers they depend on.

Much of the deep ocean floor is made up of extremely fine sediment. Fine particles from dsm would stay suspended for long periods, smothering life, disrupting feeding, and altering ecosystems far from where mining occurs.
