I don't think I ever posted this: I had a blank section of wall so I made some infill decor entirely in bambu slicer

🎉 I've bumped github.com/facet-rs/facet from "highly experimental" to just "experimental" — it has a pretty well-designed set of types, the derive macro is quite capable already, the JSON read+write crates are iterative (!!), go play with it!

error handling still feels so half-baked in Rust. it's far too easy to call to_string and inadvertently lose error context. not quite up to the level of rigor generally found in Rust

Rust has *two* cutting edge terminal emulators (alacritty and wezterm) but unfortunately neither of their VT implementations are usable as libraries. Gnome VTE it is 😩
There's an idea I've had for a software app that I've wanted to do for... uh... 15 years? It involves embedding terminal emulators as widgets inside of a larger GUI app. Anyone have opinions on the best tech stack to prototype that? I would love to use Rust but Python or Typescript might be better

instructions unclear, getting panics in production: called `Option::unwrap()` on a `None` value
Optionality is good. Decide less, especially early. You know less than you think.
What's one thing you know now that you wish you learned earlier in your software engineering career?

this goes so hard. I'm so bitter compared to my youthful days of hanging out in IRC 24/7 but I just can't bring myself to do it again.
how do I feel less overwhelmed by discord so I can actually participate in community again?

I've had twitchy eyes for the past week, and I just realized it's because the book that I've been reading every night in bed is really dusty and irritating my eyes 😩

fortunately I'm almost done with it

I went to Emilichka in Bloomfield today to pick up a few house plants. That place is legit: the kind of place where each plant comes with a tag that includes the horticultural info. And the lady working there (I think the owner) was super nice and helpful and knew everything about the plants. A+

Ok, so this may sound weird, but I really wanted a beer and all I had in the fridge was one can of some super strong stout that has been in the fridge for months. So... I cut it with like a half cup of water and it's way more palatable. Now I feel like an old timey historic person drinking weak beer

any 3d printing people know of a good modular system of very small posts/beams/connector joints for constructing arbitrary frames / boxes and whatnot?

I'm messing around with a system like this, using vaguely popsicle-stick-sized "bars" with snap-fit joints

look, I don't want to alarm anyone, but I've recently noticed that twitter is actually showing me a lot more lighthearted chill posts (some of which are even about my interests!) whereas bsky is just serving me up stuff that makes me want to die

I'm making The Best Carrot Cake for christmas, which basically means brown ALL the butter. It makes such a huge difference.

I'm using this frosting recipe, but with 1.5 tbsp TX whiskey + angostura bitters instead of vanilla, and it is so damn good: olivesnthyme.com/brown-butter...
