The planned School of Medicine at BYU now has a mission statement. I love the sense we get of the goals for the school from these two sentences:

I love this line from Bobby Yeh's opinion piece ( www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/... ) -- "In addition, the research community should embrace the idea that often a study should not be pursued or published at all."

Just heading back from the American Thoracic Society meetings in San Francisco. Also working meetings with colleagues in the ARDS, Pneumonia, and Sepsis Phenotypes Consortium. Great people doing great science. Always a privilege and pleasure.

Occurred to me today when giving a talk on sepsis that the "lacto-bolo reflex" is actually a theragnostic tool -- quickly rule out lactatemia caused by inadequate macrovascular perfusion and allow subsequent focus on management relevant to the other causes of lactatemia.

I heard today that we're 5y since the declaration of the pandemic. I still remember the terror and exhaustion as we leapt to work. I'm so proud of the work that was done by clinicians and investigators to limit the terrible burden of COVID19. And I'm so glad it's over.

We celebrated what would have been Kate's 53d birthday today by cooking her sausage pasta and cookie bars, taking neighbor plates to a couple of neighbors, and eating cookie bars with her at the cemetery. A fitting tribute to a wonderful woman.

Just discovered (always late to the game) the Woodbine Food Hall just west of downtown SLC. Deadpan Sandwiches was dinner, but lots of other options. Eager to try the Myanmar place next.

Reminder: put large recipient lists in BCC to avoid Reply All misbehaviors. Saying "Don't Reply All" essentially never works. Just use the BCC.

I'm interested to know whether others have seen a non-infectious capillary leak syndrome (mimicking toxic shock) triggered by a focal methamphetamine myositis (e.g., from injection). Google Scholar and Pubmed didn't have much; nor did the LLM word-salad bars.

What's the consensus on "self plagiarism" in the methods section when you're making multiple reports from the same underlying protocol? I'm fine with reworking background and discussion (and results shouldn't repeat), but the methods? Really?
