Decent result in tough SR. Bakes in increases from last govt at headline level. Breakdown will be interesting ie how much to DSIT & to other depts eg Health, MoD (with new defence innovation body), DBT for industrial strategy & how much (via DSIT) for ‘core research’ (ie UKRI, inc RCs, QR etc)?

R&D spending is in the headlines today on the back of a breathless press release.

Enthusiastic coverage is always welcome, but

- Pretty much flat in real terms
- No info on whether increases are backloaded
- Could still be tough for UKRI

A bit of a mixed bag on the immigration white paper. Great that the Govt want to expand the Global Talent Visa (a CaSE ask!) but there's nothing on bringing down huge upfront costs.
In this analysis, CaSE Policy Manager Camilla d'Angelo takes a look at what the Immigration White Paper means for attracting international R&D talent to the UK 🔍

Top work by the @sciencecampaign.bsky.social team pulling this together and thanks to all the other organisations we have worked with and have supported the letter. International talent is crucial to a thriving R&D sector that benefits the whole UK.
In advance of the forthcoming Immigration White Paper, CaSE and 36 other organisations have written to select Westminster Parliamentarians to restate our collective view of the importance of attracting international talent to the UK’s R&D and university sectors for economic growth.
