Thanks for the shout, @umakarma.bsky.social! Yes, new paper out by myself and amazing colleagues. We use defaults to nudge choices and the most interesting finding IMHO (in addition to what you point out) is that defaults don't work well when incongruent with background goals.
@drnikkisullivan.bsky.social has a new paper on choice defaults that just graced my inbox.

Looks like they're using eyetracking to help model how defaults don't just trigger heuristics, but rather alter valuation and attention processes.
