@drmelwaterman.bsky.social has started a blog about our current research trip to the Antarctic peninsula. We have had a really successful time on ships, the Betanzos and the Karpuj and @Escudero station where we are are being hosted by the instituto Antartico Chileno.

Just watched the doco The Forest on Australian ABC. Maybe I’m biased but a bunch of excited, articulate, passionate ecologists talking about life’s complexity and values of not cutting down old growth forest, plus stunning point cloud imagery was pretty cool. 🌳🌳🌳🌳

Looks like the next week will be very warm across nearly the entire Antarctic Ice Sheet with widespread 5-15 C temperature anomalies. Multiple atmospheric rivers in West and East Antarctica will contribute to the heat. Definitely concerning as well are within the melt season
