Exploring new places. Taking some shots. Enjoying the scenery. Today was a good day.

Nothing speaks to a great end of a trip out to see Bears than to have quiet moments with orcas on the way home. This completes my extended series of a fabulous Grizzly trip this year. Next year’s adventure is planned and promises to be an epic trip with Stan Novotny!

Awe the wonderful waters of British Columbia…. Cruise ships and Orcas. Always hard to get full photos of these beautiful whales. They were just swimming freely and quietly that afternoon. It was so magical to watch and listen.

Baby Face
I have one last photo of grizzlies this year - a little cub finally popped up his little face for a quick shot. I have had such fun with this bear series! I hope you’ve enjoyed following along. Now onto some orca edits….

I have no idea what these black birds were today on the golf course. They croaked like frogs, ran on the water, and when they spanned their wings looked like dragons. They had white beaks and hung out with the egrets on the edges of the ponds. Anyone know what they are?

Horses and Donkeys

One of my favourite things about our Arizona winter home: Donkeys, horses, and their love of carrots! Flies not so much haha.

A few hundred yards over from the mum and cubs were two more bears nestled deep up next to the forest. This mama shielded her small cub so much it was hard to see she was there. This was the only shot I was able to get even with the 600mm lens.

Sometimes you see grizzlies but only their rear ends. Deep in Glendale Cove, we came upon this Mama Bear and her two cubs. Unfortunately, it was hard to see more as we were deep behind sedge and I was on the lower deck of the skiff.

Yes, she is in the sedge; and yes, she is waist deep in water. These brave guides help guide the skiffs through shallow waterways to get closer to where we can see the bears. They are cautious, serious, and incredibly gifted at this boat craft.

On the trip out to Knight Inlet we travel in style, covered, and warm. When we get to Glendale Cove we switch over to these awesome skiffs that let us move around the shallow waters of the cove

While photographing bears, there are always quiet moments during the wait. Nothing shows the serenity of being deep in the wild away from the busyness of everyday life than a quiet swim of a Canadian Goose.

Fog frosted mountain trees of BC is one of my absolute favourite things, and I am always happy when I get the chance to photograph these scenes. This is heading into Glendale Cove, off the Knight Inlet.

Happy Halloween 🎃 👻
We pulled away from Black Bear #4 and looking back at the cliff above the glacial green waters not only can you see her perched on the side of the cliff, but the sheer size of the cliff. These bears are truly wondrous.

Closer Up

Black Bear #4 was much bigger closer up than we could tell. I like how on the boat we had the opportunity to get closer and see how big she was. She still seems like she is just attached to the rock face.

Barnacle Cliff

Is there even a ledge on the side of that cliff or is the bear glued on?? I love the texture of the background and the light on this shot.

I swear from complete camouflage to walking on tiny ledges like Mtn Goats, these bears are amazing! Black Bear #4 scaled a small ledge to eat foliage right off the rock side.

I’ve been experimenting videoing with my z9 - it’s a bit shaky handholding and on a rocking boat! Holding a cell phone is much easier, but the power of the z9 is amazing.
I love watching Elderberry climb the rocks. So sure footed!

We are just about to leave Elderberry. I have loved this time editing her shots. There are a few videos still to look through and share. I hope you’ve enjoyed this series. Thanks for following!

This Look. Those Claws.
It’s rare to have a bear look up into the camera when the they are so busy eating. I loved the look on Elderberry’s face and the perfect view of her claws. I have cropped in on this photo and blurred the background to have her stand out.

It is so amazing how Elderberry blends with all the environment around her. I particularly like the shape of the coastal rocks with Elderberry walking along the edge.

Seaside barnacles harvested, Elderberry quietly moved along the shoreline still camouflaged on a rock shelf obscured by overhanging branches. Where do you think her next stop may be?
