The work of Stanley Lench is both beautiful and simultaneously a critique of the construction of beauty, and of art itself. You can view more of his extraordinary and vivid art here 🔗 bit.ly/MOTM_Lench

"Brands with true longevity turn out to be a bit like people: they just want and need to be loved."

Some of my anthropological views on brands as cultural artefacts in Stefan Stern's @stefanstern.bsky.social excellent @financialtimes.com piece today on "Why brand desirability is key to longevity"

I have no idea what happened at the Badbadnotgood gig at
@southbankcentre.bsky.social tonight. The sound levels where all over the place. Drums drowned out pretty much everything in South London. The only person you could see on stage was the sound engineer. x5 tickets @£50 for noise

Glasner's tactical know-how is exceptional. His use of substitutes again was spot on. The ball is well and truly in the owners court if they have the desire to back him realistically and dev the club. If not, says a lot about the level of ambition from the owners #cpfc.

Incredible indictment of the quality British male football managers in the Premier League - At the start of the 24/25 season there were 6 British managers out of 20 Premier league managers. 4/6 have now been sacked while 2/14 non British managers have been sacked. - Poor leadership and culture?

Uncertainty has already become a themed term for 2025 - To make sense of what is going on we can do no worse than turning to Zygmunt Bauman's theory of liquid modernity. His sociological sense making saw well in advance how uncertainty would unfold.

How long will it take me to read through the out pouring of #LinkedIn members sharing their 'reflections' of 2024? On the one hand you feel a moral obligation to read them while on the other hand you feel guilty falling asleep half way through. A anthropological interpretation is needed for sure.

Some of my views appear in todays @financialtimes.com in an excellent article by @stefanstern.bsky.social on CEO pay and why it's different to elite football players. There's even a mention of cpfc
Oh dear, someone has said it again - CEOs deserve monster pay packages because, after all, that's what superstars in sport or showbiz get. Not a good argument. Me for @financialtimes.com (with @drjohncurran.bsky.social and @highpaycentre.bsky.social ) #executivepay

Argument for higher executive pay forgets corporate performance is a team effort

7 years ago since @officialcpfc.bsky.social announced the go ahead with the new stand. It took the pharaohs 20 years to build the pyramids, although in fairness to Palace, they did not have to deal with Croydon Council #cpfc .

Sadly the Marc Guehi slogan is embodied in psychoanalytical and anthropological codes. - Denial, taboo, pollution, purity etc etc. Yet, tt also exposes the @eplscores.bsky.social for assuming they can, through a ritualised performance of wearing a armband, address an important societal issue. #cpfc
