I would expect nothing less from any magpie of my acquaintance.
Apparently Magpies and Crows Are Using "Anti-Bird Spikes" to Make Their Nests
Birds often incorporate human-made materials while nest building, but a new study shows European corvids are taking the idea to the extreme.

I don't typically talk politics on social media these days, especially US politics, but JFC this is remarkably inept.

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

This piece eloquently summarises many of the thoughts I've had in recent years about the dark side of doorbell cameras and delivery apps. They're both awful, and not unrelated www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

My latest attempt to justify an obsession with buying random pieces of travel gear by calling it "research" rather than "a problem". Today, it's coffee's turn!

The lack of regulation around misuse of email addresses in Australia is mind-blowing. Buy something online? You're on the mailing list. Get sent a coffee receipt by email to save paper? You're on the mailing list. Swipe a fucking reward card at the checkout? You're on the mailing list. So, so shit.

Almaty was easily one of the biggest surprises of my most recent trip. I'm not sure what I expected, but a clean, modern city with loads of green space, great food and coffee shops, and a stunning mountain backdrop definitely wasn't it. I'd *highly* recommend a visit! #kazakhstan

Christmas is coming, which means that today was the day I got to inflict the song "Snoopy's Christmas" on my girlfriend for the very first time in her life. If you grew up in New Zealand or Australia, this monstrosity will be indelibly burned into your brain. If you didn't, well, be very grateful.
