What are you favourite dumb lecture-friendly examples of how a poor baseline condition can lead to faulty conclusions from a neuroimaging study (media interpretation or journal article)

What are your favorite dumb lecture-friendly examples of reverse inference in neuroimaging (either from media coverage, or better yet perpetuated by the journal article itself)?

Bizarre passport control grief at Munich Airport with my German wife (different last name than kids) being asked to show kids birth certificates. Bad enough, but fact I (same last name as the kids) was travelling with them! God forbid you don't take your husband's name in Germany.

We found that neither motor nor general visual imagery vividness predicted action understanding, Bayesian analyses provided moderate to strong evidence for the null hypothesis, and the results were stable across multiple robustness checks/ sensitivity analyses.

Regarding the Australia social media ban

I think it's unlikely that social media is causing harm to children

But

If you think your kid shouldn't be engaging with social media, then stop them engaging with social media. It's trivially simple with Google family (and the Apple equivalent).

Occasionally you get a peek into the union/university relationships in other countries and realise it's just the wild West out there
Simon Fraser University wants only non-union faculty at its new medical school.

SFU contends that it's so new and different that the existing collective agreement with university faculty doesn't apply.

Watched Road House (2024) last night.

Gylenhall was a good lead, and the fight scenes were well choreographed

Film largely ruined by Conor McGregor, who is basically playing an even more awful version of himself, gurning all the way through the film

All other characters weirdly non-existent
