The dismantling of PH and dismissal of experienced and respected health leaders and advisors, along w/ the lack of using science, data, & evidence to improve our nation’s health are placing lives at risk. CA stands together w/ our public health & medical professional colleagues to uphold integrity.

2025 State of Public Health in CA testimony+ some data w/ life expectancy and leading causes of death and ongoing disparity trends is now posted. The drivers of premature deaths are striking: drug and alcohol related deaths and suicide are among the top 3 causes of death between the ages of 15-64.

Our first measles death in a healthy unvaccinated child in over 20 years is preventable & tragic, and several more in the ICU + over 30 hospitalizations. We need to keep vaccination rates high and sadly they are dropping- only 82% are vaccinated in the TX area w/ the recent outbreak of >200 cases.
Measles spreads easily and can cause serious illness, but it’s preventable with the MMR vaccine.

Don’t wait, make sure you and your loved ones are up to date on your MMR vaccine. Schedule your vaccine appointment at MyTurn.ca.gov or with your health care provider.

2nd unvaccinated measles death in NM today. Of note: the unvaccinated TX death was the 1st healthy child death in >20 yrs. Adult in 2015 + teen in 2003 deaths were immunosuppressed. Other 2003 death was a 75yo. 208 cases from this outbreak & MMR prevents! Vit A may help treat, but does NOT prevent!
📣Measles is an extremely contagious virus. Make sure you and your family are up to date on your measles vaccine to stay protected.

One preventable death of a healthy child is too many- we had eliminated measles in 2000, & now in recent years we are seeing increased cases in unvaccinated travelers,+ sadly increasing outbreaks in pockets of unvaccinated communities in the U.S. This is very infectious and deaths in 1-2/1000 cases.

It’s not too late to get vaccinated! This is one of our worst flu seasons in a long time, and sadly we’ve already had 11 pediatric deaths from flu this season. Getting vaccinated not only helps prevent severe illness for you, but helps protect our community including the very young and older adults!
There’s lots of flu going around. Stay home and away from others if you’re sick so you don’t spread germs. Call your doctor - they might recommend a prescription medication to prevent your illness from becoming serious.
