Kit's idle animation for the menu will probably be done over the weekend. I am right now adding caves and fire to the game.
Good news. Smile Run is a game. We now have:

Character select
Play multiple game versions
UI
All game over conditions

It is still a long road, but I feel good. Here is an old test video. (some placeholders have since been replaced)

I know I have been quiet since the fun Halloween post. I have been taking the letters I made for the logo and finishing the alphabet so they can be used in the UI as well. The stylized letters have been fun, but it sure takes a while. I am mainly working on menus so I can have a functional demo.
I spent time today working on the logo. I made a version where the purple shapes out an arrow, but I thought this one looked better. I already had a complaint about the fade from the brush I used. I thought it looked cool.

Another character model finished. For only my 3rd character model, I really like how she came out. I am not sure 100% what color to make her, or what her name is, but I was happy enough to share her early.

Other things I have planned.

I may start streaming some of the game development process. But only if there is any interest.

I have created a Discord server but have not set up any channels yet. If this post gets 10 likes by Friday, I will open it.

Right now, Patreon is just mirroring the other social media platforms, but I will start making exclusive content once support starts building. Attention to the project is going slower than I wanted.

A little teaser for the next character. She is the owner of the Smile Cafe and looks after the Smile Builders kids. I still have a lot of work to do on her. I hope to reveal her for the Halloween post.

Meet Lilly. The Dragon of Dragonwolf Games. She joins Kit in the Smile Builders club. She will also be a selectable character in all Smile Builder games. She is good friends with Kit but can sometimes get a little annoyed by him.

As a solo developer, I have to focus on every aspect of development. It can get hard to prioritize. Do I make more objects for the game, improve the existing functionality in game, develop more fun promotional images, new features, or do I spend time marketing myself as a developer today?

I just started work on the owner of the Smile Cafe. She is the main adult of the Smile Builders universe (just came up with that name as I was typing this). I don't need her for a while in the game, but she would be good to have with Kit and the Dragon character in my fun promotional images.

I thought I would make the obstacles sillier as I went. I am not sure what the random booth sitting on platforms in the sky is, but someone set it up. It's closed though. I decided that the workers were too lazy to stack up the cones properly.

I am spending the day reworking the platforms of the sky environment. Gone are the garbage little clouds that hardly looked like they held up the platforms. Now they look more realistic. For platforms floating on clouds realistic.

I am still arguing with myself as to when I should register Smile Run on Steam. Maybe when I have two characters and two environments fully functioning and looking good. I still need to work on the game logo.

It's just one of those days. I spent so long on this little walk and he still slides along the floor. I think I am going to have to move to plan b for this video. Kit really did not have a reason to be this sad anyway.

I am not sure how useful it is, but I added a way for the player to switch between three different camera angles. Don't mind the random switching of Kit holding the torch. I was testing the animations without having the cave set up yet.
