Someone called Kit's eyes soul-less from yesterday's post, so I had to make an emergency change. Attractive characters have always been my goal. Even after Smile Run, all of my characters will continue to evolve. The Smile Builders are DragonWolf Game's identity. They will be everywhere.

I have had reports that the fade on the letters makes it hard for some people to read. As much as I love it, I am going to redesign the letters.

The letters have also been turned into a font for the game itself.
First version of the Steam header image is finally done. I will also just use it around social media for a while. I plan to be here more often now. I try not to shove too much work in progress at everyone, but promoting has to pick up.

This is a great comic. My goal was to make Kit and Lilly as adorable as these characters.
Today marks the 5th anniversary of my comic, "Dinosaur Bones"! Even after all this time I still can't get tired of drawing these guys. 🦖

For the next week, I am opening up my new Discord server. There will be a Patreon section soon for members to make suggestions and post bug reports. Also, soon there will be a Patreon tier for exclusive Discord channels where I will post developer logs and detailed updates.

I know it has been a while since I posted any real updates. Here is a new gameplay video of Smile Run early alpha. I removed the copyrighted placeholder music for now. You can see how the two environments transition well and play differently.

Some updates since I have been quiet at the end of the year.

Lots of administrative work is finished to allow the next steps
Steam store will soon be up and early access shortly after
Discord server is up and will soon be taking invites

I swear that I find more bugs and things to do that I never thought of 3 minutes after building the project for my Alpha showcase this weekend. I guess I will be working on it in the hotel.

Kit's idle animation for the menu will probably be done over the weekend. I am right now adding caves and fire to the game.
Good news. Smile Run is a game. We now have:

Play multiple game versions
UI
All game over conditions

It is still a long road, but I feel good. Here is an old test video. (some placeholders have since been replaced)

I know I have been quiet since the fun Halloween post. I have been taking the letters I made for the logo and finishing the alphabet so they can be used in the UI as well. The stylized letters have been fun, but it sure takes a while. I am mainly working on menus so I can have a functional demo.
I spent time today working on the logo. I made a version where the purple shapes out an arrow, but I thought this one looked better. I already had a complaint about the fade from the brush I used. I thought it looked cool.

Another character model finished. For only my 3rd character model, I really like how she came out. I am not sure 100% what color to make her, or what her name is, but I was happy enough to share her early.

Other things I have planned.

I may start streaming some of the game development process. But only if there is any interest.

Right now, Patreon is just mirroring the other social media platforms, but I will start making exclusive content once support starts building. Attention to the project is going slower than I wanted.

A little teaser for the next character. She is the owner of the Smile Cafe and looks after the Smile Builders kids. I still have a lot of work to do on her. I hope to reveal her for the Halloween post.

Meet Lilly. The Dragon of Dragonwolf Games. She joins Kit in the Smile Builders club. She will also be a selectable character in all Smile Builder games. She is good friends with Kit but can sometimes get a little annoyed by him.

As a solo developer, I have to focus on every aspect of development. It can get hard to prioritize. Do I make more objects for the game, improve the existing functionality in game, develop more fun promotional images, new features, or do I spend time marketing myself as a developer today?

I just started work on the owner of the Smile Cafe. She is the main adult of the Smile Builders universe (just came up with that name as I was typing this). I don't need her for a while in the game, but she would be good to have with Kit and the Dragon character in my fun promotional images.

I thought I would make the obstacles sillier as I went. I am not sure what the random booth sitting on platforms in the sky is, but someone set it up. It's closed though. I decided that the workers were too lazy to stack up the cones properly.

I am spending the day reworking the platforms of the sky environment. Gone are the garbage little clouds that hardly looked like they held up the platforms. Now they look more realistic. For platforms floating on clouds realistic.
