One of my graduate fellows became a candidate last week from a hospital bed. Hours before giving birth, she was still sending emails, rescheduling meetings, and sending apologies for the inconvenience as if her life was not quite literally on the line. I want more for Black women. That's it.

So I defended my dissertation the morning of Election Day. Was it intentional? Not really (but God). Despite the challenges in the journey, there was SO MUCH LOVE present in my defense and if but only for just a moment...I believed in the better future that was on the table coming to pass.
