Heading to CERF 2025 in a few weeks. Want to meet up and talk research on ecosystem models, oyster ecology, microplastics, or even meiofauna (there may not be many meiofauna ecologists at the conference)? Then let me know.

Come check out our Community Day on Saturday, October 18th from 10-2.

Can't wait til August to see who is presenting at #CERF2025. It's a bit agonizing sitting at my convener page looking at the list we've accepted and waiting to see others. Let me know if you are attending and want to talk #microplastics, #ecosystemmodeling, or #oysters.

This is a tribute to Peter Benchley, author of 'Jaws', who dedicated his life to reversing the unexpected negative impact his book had on the image of sharks.

We kill millions of sharks annually and demonize them in our media, who is the real monster? 💀

A reminder that we as scientists have a duty to share our knowledge while respecting the knowledge of others. Sharing is not about dumbing down; it's about reframing our thoughts using common language and even analogies. We are great at learning new things. Let's get better at sharing our findings.

Can't wait to see some of you at SOTC 2025 in New Orleans and to hear about past, current, and proposed research, conservation, cultural, and legal (yes legal) work occurring along the Gulf coast. Not presenting, but happy to connect and talk about our MissDelta work.

Sometimes I'm asked why I write blog posts aaronridall.weebly.com if my readership is not enormous. I think that scientists are quite bad at communicating with their audiences so I practice by writing weekly blogs about my research, about my week at the lab, or about current science events. #scicom

My last PhD chapter is out!

Combined GHG fluxes reveal a net carbon sink across a glacier-ocean continuum — glacier exports CH₄ to coastal waters, but strong CO₂ uptake outweighs GHG emissions. 🌊❄️

Combined CH4, N2O, and CO2 Fluxes Reveal a Net Carbon Sink Across a Glacier‐Ocean Continuum
A rapidly-retreating marine-terminating glacier exported CH4 to nearshore waters N2O was undersaturated near the glacier front The regional CO2 sink greatly outweighs CH4 and N2O emissions

Paper out @agu.org!

Overall, global fjords are minor sources of #N2O to the atmosphere

❗ BUT fjords with #aquaculture and #anoxia host relatively high nitrous oxide #emissions

Had a great time Friday talking to students as part of @skypeascientist.bsky.social. I will continue to support scicomm for as long as I'm a professional and happily support @sarahmackattack.bsky.social and the skypeascientist team. It takes only 30 minutes to show you care about science education.

Can't wait to give my first #skypeascientist talk this upcoming week, focusing on the #GreatLakes and #invasivespecies. Big thanks to @sarahmackattack.bsky.social for all their work with this project and I highly encourage early career scientists to sign up. #postdoc #marineecologist #scicomm

I unashamedly enjoy looking at expensive houses on [insert house search website here] and critiquing the odd things in houses. I know I don't have enough money to buy a house, but I do like imagining me in that overly decorated home for sale.
