Who would have imagined that this week would feature Trump handling Mamdani with kid gloves and his long-time ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) with boxing gloves.

A video by members of Congress urging that the law be followed hardly amounts to sedition. But, given Trump’s other bizarre and baseless criminal investigations, we need to take his threats seriously.

Donald Trump is not merely a rhetorical autocrat; he actually wants to be a dictator. But if all dimensions of our society wake up and assert peaceful, lawful, vigorous pro-democracy power in opposition, his autocratic push can be defeated and democracy reinforced.

The biggest divide now isn’t left vs. right. It’s highly engaged news consumers vs. passive ones.

Chaos reigns, and US credibility in foreign affairs is nonexistent. That's what happens when you put a New York City real estate developer, Steve Witkoff, in charge of foreign affairs and have a Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who is so weak he has no influence with the president.

On Thursday, the Trump administration “leaked” a 28-point “peace proposal” to end Russia’s war on Ukraine. The proposal read like a Russian “wish list” and included phrasing and syntax that suggested it was originally drafted in Russian.

The House unanimously voted to claw back language in last week’s government funding bill that could award some GOP senators hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages for having their phone records searched as part of the January 6 investigation.

After a massive public backlash over the Coast Guard’s proposal to declassify Swastikas and nooses as hate symbols, the leader of the Coast Guard announced that the changes would not be going into effect after all. Nice job, y’all!

Energy and environmental groups are suing the Trump administration! The lawsuit is a response to the cancellation of $7.6 billion in grants for clean energy projects in blue states, which the plaintiffs assert is politically motivated and violates the First and Fifth Amendments.

We can never forget that people like Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Marco Rubio decided that saving a tiny percentage of the massive federal budget was more important than saving hundreds of thousands and, potentially, millions of lives.

The combination of the defunding of U.S.A.I.D. and the chaos Rubio’s contradictory orders caused has undone two decades of progress towards helping combat poverty, hunger, and diseases like HIV.

Leaving a soft power void for adversaries like China to fill is destructive in both the short and long term, but there is a much bigger cost: since the Trump defunded U.S.A.I.D., at least 600,000 people who should still be alive are dead. 400,000 of those who’ve died are children.

Trump knows his administration is growing weaker, and is running out of time, so they’re going to try to distract, overwhelm, and scare us into submission while simultaneously stuffing their pockets with as much loot as they can grab before the proverbial safe gets locked again.

According to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s 2019 report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort discussed with Russian Konstantin Kilimnik, “a ‘backdoor’ means for Russia to control eastern Ukraine.”

Not only does this agreement sell out Ukraine and Europe for the benefit of Russia—which attacked Ukraine—it explicitly separates the U.S. from NATO, a long-time goal of Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.
