Very pleased this won the Deutsche Börse #Photography Award. There were two good candidates, one okay, and one so achingly woke it was a parody of itself. This was one of the two I really liked.

So my Ward has five candidates standing. When I went to vote this evening, it was the first time I found out the names of four of them! I can’t recall that happening before. #Locaelections

I would suggest her fourth reason is by far the most significant, and is two reasons: poverty and political exclusion, and that without some kind of rethinking of the #Brandmauer the sense of political exclusion will become even more destructive.
The most striking result from yesterday’s German election #btw2025 🇩🇪:

🔹 35 years after reunification: The GDR is redrawn on this map.
🔹 The AfD won 45 out of 48 electoral districts in the East.
🔹 In some parts of Saxony, they came close to 50%!

Why is this happening? Here’s my take 👇

Today I wanted an illustration for a talk on Genesis 2, and not finding a CC image of the sort I wanted, decided to give @Photoshop's AI features a spin. This was the result I went for.

Having watched Conclave today, I have to say that I found its ending as implausible as the book's. Indeed, possibly more so because of even less build up for Benitez in the film. That said, it's brilliantly acted, sumptuously dressed and staged, beautifully photographed.

The legal and political commentator, David Allen Green, posted a really interesting argument in favour of the #AssistedDyingBill today. I was not persuaded to change my view on #AssistedSuicide for the reasons set out here (with links)

I’m slightly bemused why he held back these recommendations from his report only to make them a couple of weeks later on a news programme. Why wasn’t he clearer in the report?

Keith Makin's review laid the blame for the Smyth abuse scandal at the door of senior clergy members within the Church of England.

In his first interview since the review, he urges the Church to consider calling in the police over the cover-up of evidence.

Lots of liberals:
Lethal injection is a barbaric punishment for convicted murderers. Sometimes it takes them hours to die in agony.

Also lots of liberals:
Lethal injection is a compassionate option for the terminally ill and guarantees dignity.

I have offered some reflections on the issue, currently very live here in the UK, on assisted suicide. I'm hopeful Parliament will vote against any change in the status quo. dougchaplin.substack.com/p/thats-death

I think I'm at the point where neither Bluesky nor Threads feels quite ready to take over from Twitter, but X is now so routinely angry and unpleasant I hope one of them will soon emerge as the most obvious platform, For now I think I'm going to dip a toe in both fairly regularly.
