Hello everyone! I’m new here to Bluesky!

My name is Jorge! I’m 27 and currently a 5th year PhD Candiate at UIUC for Biochemistry! Studying lipids and protein machinery involved in membrane fusion.

I have a deep passion for science education, especially when it comes to chemistry (and more)!
Hydrohalogenation Reaction Animation:
Covering the reaction of HBr with 3-methylbutene

This reaction includes a carbocation rearrangment.

Been working primilary these past few weeks on Alkenes —> Alcohol reactions. Specifically this was my first attempt at animating Oxyermercuration Demercuration

Taking into consideration that demercuration’s mechanism isn't taught in OCHEM I or II. Hence the mechanism is just faded out/in

Few of the Resources I've made recently reviewing Markovnikov’s Rule.

- added more animations
- added “focused” animations to show minor and major outcomes

I’ve been prolonging attempting to animate hydride shifts when discussing carbocation stability because I was nervous on how to animate the shift

Here is my first attempt; I’d love feedback and comments on how I can improve

Thank you! #chemistry #stem #organicchemistry

A few weeks ago, I thought I had the funniest idea and spent almost an entire weekend to make it happen 🧬

Just posted my reaction animation for the Halogenation of tertiary alcohols (in this case 2-methyl-2-propanol with HCl) over on my YouTube!

Finally done with the section of the transition from learning elimination reactions to zaitsev’s rule! I liked how the focus of the major and minor products of the elimination of 2-methyl-2-butanol came out to use as a case study for introducing this rule to predicting major alkene products!

Crazy to see it go; even if the last year had it’s issues - it’s still an end to and era of the last 5 years. Bye TikTok

Trying to work out a format to help illustrate major and minor products

The current attempt to focus on major and minor products for the organic chemistry animations is to create various hues for the different “paths” when the the pathway can become bridged.

Minor and major product animations for the elimination of 2-methyl-2-butanol (tertiary alcohol).

New animation for Halogenation of Alkenes! I’ll be posting both these animations and page over on my Kofi, which will allow free digital download! Keep an eye out over there as I’ll try to be updating and adding more to the page more often!

Since the reaction of PBr3 and PCl3 are similar; both following the SN2 reaction mechanism, I decided to add a new animation with another primary alcohol reacting with PCl3 to compliment the page and earlier animation!

Over the past year I’ve been attempting to make more detailed focused organic #chemistry reaction animations.

I’ve been getting about 1-2 out a month. Here’s an example of a retrosynthesis pathway animation I did combining many of the more focused animations done prior.

Here’s a sneak peak at the claymation version of the organic chemistry reaction mechanism for “Dehydration of Alcohols with H2SO4 under Heat”

The full analysis of the reaction will include multiple different mediums to examine and learn the reaction :) stay tuned

This was my first time trying to animate a organic chemistry reaction on a chalk board. It’s the reaction between an Alkene and X2 (where X in this case is Cl)

More to come soon :)
