All day long we edited back and forth. I refused to back down on any of the central points. No byline is worth any negotiation on integrity. She said we were coming to a con consensus. The day dragged on, I asked her to please not waste my time if they weren't going to take it. 6/

I wrote them Sunday that I was withdrawing the piece. This morning, the same editor wrote back, apologizing, saying it was her boss that made these edits, and that she understands my position. She said she still wanted to work with me, could I please give them more time. 5/
