Extreme views are heavily over-represented on social media

Social platforms’ tendency to reward hostile content creates incentives that systematically reward simplistic messages and extreme positions and this fuels populism www.ft.com/content/9251... via @jburnmurdoch.ft.com

Two years ago I lost my dad to cancer.

He used to run marathons for our local cancer hospice and taught me to love the water by taking me swimming every week.

So in his memory I'm raising money for the hospice not by running a half marathon... but by swimming one

Next month I'll be swimming for around 8 hours non-stop to raise money for our local cancer hospice

Can you be the person to get the fundraiser to our £20k goal?

I can't believe it's been 4 years since I started talking maths on twitch. I'm celebrating with possibly the most challenging streeam I've ever designed - a 12 hour maths exam! Join me on the day as I raise money for the british heart foundation!

Curious what Microsoft's Quantum Computing announcement is about? @dominicwalliman.com made an excellent video last year on the topic of topological quantum computing.

Be aware that Microsoft made similar claims in 2018 and then retracted them in 2021.

There's an argument that no copyright infringement happens if AI trains on people's work, because it's basically what humans do when we're learning to draw, make music, cinematography etc.

I used to think this argument logically made sense, but felt something wrong about it in me guts

Today, the UK government announced a proposal to change copyright law - for the benefit of AI companies - that would cause huge, irreversible harm to creators.

More info below, but most importantly here's what you can do (wherever you live):

I like playing rock music

I also like eBay, managed to get this amp and cabs for £187, the guitar was about £3 - I found it on the street, it was broken and I fixed it (new switch and jack also from ebay), oh yeah and £10 for new strings.

Pretty good setup for about £200
