Today's announcement by the US is disappointing.

The UK steel industry contributes significantly to the US economy and its defence.

These tariffs do not benefit the American people or @communityunion.bsky.social members.

This is not a win for the USA.

It supports well-paid jobs across the country and is key to making our country greener.

Steel is and has always been vital to our economy.

We must protect our domestic steelmaking capacity. Failing to do so would leave us as the only G7 country without it.

The plan published today is a road map to make our steel greener while also protecting our national security.
