The federal government is reducing employees by attrition, which I think is a pretty bad way of restructuring your workforce.

I think this actually gets to the heart of most people's argument in favour of expanding vehicle infrastructure. "I hate driving so build more roads so I can spend less time driving".
Then when alternatives to cars get proposed, they see that as causing more time spent driving.
