Bumbling along happily under grace in rural southern Wisconsin. Married with five children. Pastor at St. Peter's Lutheran (LCMS), Arlington, WI. Oracle of obscure music.
I was today years old when I uttered for the first time, “Your first mistake was buying Flaming Hot Funyuns”.

This seems to me to be the state of some Lutheran preaching today. I try to remember each sermon that I write “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

Mom is asleep in Jesus. Christ is risen.

My mother’s health is deteriorating. She will more than likely enter hospice care on Tuesday. Her falling asleep in Jesus is not imminent, but yet on the horizon.

Bobby Bare turned 89 years old Sunday. This is a top-20 country hit from 1976. IIRC, it was a running joke in an episode of the TV show "Alice".
Bobby Bare "Dropkick Me Jesus" (Unedited Version)
Most versions of Bare's 1976 #17 hit omit the 3rd verse, so here is the full version for everyone to hear! Enjoy!

A phrase that brings me comfort is “I am not in control of other people’s priorities.”

You will not agree with everything he writes. You will, however, find what he writes to be interesting, especially as he corrects Rod Dreher's misunderstandings.

1 Corinthians 4:1-2

This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.

I don’t know if I am the type of person Bluesky wants on their platform. There are few Lutherans, let alone Christians, on this platform. Shrug.

One of the more important things I have taught my vicar this year is to BE PREPARED for Holy Week and Easter. Do the work early. Expect the unexpected, yes, but be prepared for what is expected. Then you won't stress and fret during Holy Week.

So this happened today. My congregation purchased it for my use as I’ve been using a personal laptop for the last two years. Much appreciated for their generosity.

No cable, no Paramount+, no big game at the end of the season. It’s just another Sunday here.
