2024 was a huge year personally: it was the year I discovered palazzo pants and I’m never going back.

: I can’t think of anything that I am least interested in than another Superman movie. Specially one that lacks Henry Cavill.

It’s a big deal when these guys haven’t seen something before.
You work around here long enough you start thinking things like, "I've seen every toaster," but you have to remember that life is full of the unexpected.
NEW: The Pop-Tart Bowl trophy is back and better than ever ... it is now a fully functional toaster trophy!

Pop-Tart partnered with GE Appliances to build this one-of-a-kind toaster trophy. It is about 1.3x the size of a normal football + can toast full-size Pop-Tarts.

None of you prepared me for how charming “Man on the inside” is and quite frankly, I’m disappointed in all of you.

Starter packs are brilliant; what took me years to build a decent set of folks to follow, I’ve done in 3 weeks. Love it.

Hanging out with @gabbroguy.bsky.social at the Smithsonian! What an absolute thrill!

Super proud of @maxstats.bsky.social presenting his testing aftershock forecasting work today at #agu2024!
December 12, 2024 at 3:44 PM
This is the best thing that @theterbush.bsky.social has ever written.
Slowly learning to get around #AGU24.

Crossing from building to building, there are options:

You can go up and over.
But if you hear a foul voice on the wind, there is another way through.

Just beware, because surely, they dug too greedily and too deep.

Beware the Mines of Mariott.

I’ll be presenting two posters, who despite all odds against them, made it to #AGU2024 in one piece. So if you are interested in social sciences, earthquake early warnings, OR the New Jersey quake in April (we got 184k did you feel it reports!), come check out my posters!

I think I lack the Christmas cheer gene….any tips for people to get through the holidays who hate the holidays?
December 8, 2024 at 4:02 PM
Tonight I bought my PhD supervisor dinner. It was like buying my dad dinner with my first good paycheck. Felt nice to give something small back to someone who has given me so much.

I guess I’m full of odd opinions today. So I petition that we make John Carpenter’s “The Thing” a disaster film. Or a Christmas film. Maybe a disaster Christmas film.

Ok I’ve never able to be sufficiently organized to print posters on fabric ahead of time but this is simple “chef’s kiss”.
I once build a couch and then Jos turned my posters into the cushion covers.

Ok science community, here is my pettiest and smallest hill I’m going to die on. Hear me out: posters are stupid. They waste paper, ink and this plane is full of poster tubes taking up space. I’m grateful to have a poster presentation but bring in electronic posters asap!

Tale as old as time. Thanks, #agu2024.

I dropped off X for a few years, for largely personal reasons but now I’m on here, I feel more inspired to contribute. What would you like me to chat about on here?
December 1, 2024 at 11:14 PM
I think I like it here.

This is important to know. On a personal note, it was developed and published by the exceptional Tom Hanks (not the actor), who passed away this year. He was a wonderful mentor and scientist.
Did you know that scientists no longer use the Richter Scale to measure earthquake magnitude?

Now, we tend to use the “Moment Magnitude (Mw)” scale, which was built off of the tenets of the Richter scale. 🧪 ⚒️

This is exceptional work by Forrest and the team at FEMA to make temporary housing work in Lahaina.
Year ago I flew to Maui and was given a task by our Regional Administrator: find a suitable location for a temporary housing site for 170 homes, design it, secure a lease and permits and then BUILD it.
