3 people just to handle billing at one diesel vendor. Company men stamping tickets instead of checking safety. Armies of accountants reconciling chaos. The problem isn't staffing, it's that no one's fixing the root cause. Death by a thousand cuts.

Investors shifted from growth to free cash flow. Refracs can cost $600K vs. $4.7M for full re-completions. When margin matters more than volume, thousands of wells suddenly make sense. The math changed. The opportunity followed.

"How do we get started with AI?" isn't a technology question, it's a workflow question. Most people can't identify where they waste hours copying data. Start small. The hardest part is the catalyst, not the tool. Momentum beats perfection.

Join us for a live session where we explore how operators adjust their drilling and completions strategies in real time. We’re going live on Thursday Jan 29 at 10 AM CT. Only on Collide.

Hiring 3 average people vs. 1 great one doesn't scale productivity, it kills it. More friction, more layers, less output. The path to a billion-dollar company with <50 people? Talent intensity and ruthless focus. Most companies can't afford to say no enough.

Industry focuses 90% on new wells. Refracs? Misunderstood. They'll never be factory mode, too much precision required. Maybe the refrac opportunity isn't being underestimated. Maybe we just don't know how to think about work that doesn't scale easily.

The gap between "I studied this" and "I've been engaged in this" is huge. Students who build a presence in their industry before graduating don't just have better resumes, they have proof they were already showing up.

AI isn’t replacing experts in energy. It’s compressing time. Work that used to take weeks now takes days, sometimes hours. The noise still needs judgment and experience to clean up, but lower costs mean more data gets used and more work gets done. That’s leverage, not displacement.

AI right now feels a lot like the early shale days.

The people who won weren’t the ones most rooted in convention. They were the ones willing to say, “This probably won’t work, but let’s try,” and then let the data decide. Same mindset. Different tool.

For years, geologists were confident certain things just couldn’t happen underground. Then wells started getting sheared off horizontally. Entire zones behaving like a bellows. Pancake fracks showing up where theory said they shouldn’t.

The earth has a way of humbling confidence.
