Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

Pollution is a major driver of disease. Harmful chemicals travel far beyond where they are released, contaminating air, water & food systems and contributing to millions of premature deaths a year.

That’s why we must #BeatChemicalPollution at its source, using a #OneHealth approach: bit.ly/3Nxmjyl

These results point to a clear gap: the lack of effective land management in many fire-affected regions.

Persistent post-fire erosion appears closely linked to long-term land degradation, highlighting the need to prioritize post-fire land management.

Recovery after fire is often incomplete.

Globally, only 39% of cumulatively burned areas recovered between 2001–2019. Recovery is particularly limited in Africa (46%) and Europe (56%), even after single fire events, leaving soils exposed to ongoing erosion.

One key result: post-fire soil erosion is persistent and cumulative.

Although erosion peaks after fire, nearly 70% of annual post-fire soil erosion is driven by past wildfires, while only ~30% comes from the most recent fire year.
