At present the US simply lacks the capacity to render assistance to whatever degree the current admin might even want to. The US has/had a whole agency tasked with dealing with these situations. It was systematically pulverized over two months. Its final employees were terminated last week.
As the death toll from Myanmar's worst earthquake in more than a century rose past 2,000, many people have taken to social media to plead with foreign governments to redirect aid into Sagaing, a rebel stronghold where residents say that over 80% of the town has been destroyed. nyti.ms/4iJ43wR

All of this. I would just add that the US promotion of rights abroad (to counter the Soviets) led to the expansion of Civil Rights at home. Signaling to dictators that the US does not care about human rights empowers Trump to brutalize his domestic enemies. Excuse my horrors and I’ll ignore yours.
Dictators and authoritarians globally are cheering Trump/Musk's destruction of USAID. But Trump/Musk think that's *good.* They're aligned with the dictators/authoritarians in this regard.
