I see this stuff quite a lot in GI biopsies, particularly the stomach. Not normally as much as in this case. Not 100% sure what it is but seems most likely to be a ‘pharmaceutical filler’ like microcrystalline cellulose #pathsky #pathology #GIPathology #histology #histopathology

A patient who bled following polypectomy had a mesenteric embolisation. Sadly he then perforated secondary to ischaemia. Mesenteric vessels are full of this black stuff - this is Onyx embolisation material #pathsky #pathology #histopathology

Difficult news this week that one of my mentors and colleague Professor Ray McMahon passed away. He had been here in Manchester for such a long time, helped train me and everyone else who came through here, and for me personally a wonderful colleague since I joined the GI team as a consultant

Super little finding. Patient presented with abdominal pain. Here’s a gastric biopsy… #pathsky #pathology #GIPathology #histology #histopathology

One can understand why patients get frustrated with GPs sometimes. My wife has had a lot of trouble with De Quervain’s tenosynovitis for a few months (mommy wrist). I think steroid injection is warranted as she can’t rest it owing to baby. What has GP advised? Paracetamol.

Feel like I should put this on my CV (or resumé, if you prefer) #musicsky

“Trump loyalists” is a gentle euphemism for the next US government being one of utter cronyism, which is inherently corrupt

I think this is a nice example of nodular regenerative hyperplasia of the liver. You can see the nodular architecture produced by alternating hypertrophied and atrophic hepatocytes. No fibrosis. This is a cause of non-cirrhotic portal hypertension #pathsky #gipath #liverpath #pathology

Who doesn’t love pathology? #pathsky

I swear Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth spend most of the season playing each other, then occasionally beat Arsenal

Another nice case, routine duodenal biopsy. Can you see them yet? (Hint: if anyone ever tells you they have an interesting duodenal biopsy, it’s probably because of this…) #histology #histopathology #pathology #gipath #gipathology

Routine sigmoid biopsy to assess a known ulcerative colitis. But aren’t these cells a bit odd? 🧐 #pathology #histology #gipathology #histopathology

What I like most about Bluesky so far is that on the discover tab I’m mostly getting photos of sunsets and birds. On Twitter, it’s just chaotic anger admixed with weird Temu crap

Another nice little case recently. S100-positive tactile corpuscle-like bodies in colonic mucosa, can look quite like granulomas #pathology #GIPath #histology #histopathology

This, as featured in my avi, was a cute little finding. Enterobius in a tubular adenoma #pathology #GIPath #histology #histopathology

My first contributions to Bluesky are to try and fill it up with pathology. Here is gastric metaplasia in a duodenal biopsy. I don’t know why but this is one of my favourite day to day microscopic findings. #pathology #GIpath #histology #histopathology
