A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

I've been having a civil (but frustrating) politics discussion with my conservative aunt in my DMs (not this app) for about a month now, and it's the epitome of "a lie circles the globe three times while the truth is getting its boots on."

Shit like this really illustrates how lefties assume that people can read subtext and they broadly CANNOT. 50% of viewers will see this and think, "Cool Tesla ad."

The instructors at my dance studio have progressively all started using they/them pronouns for me, which I find hilarious because I never asked them to or indicated it in any way (except my appearance & the fact I'm leading, I guess), but they all heard it from each other and decided it was true.

I will believe those men who say their housework is split 50/50 when I see a group of women playing basketball at the rec center at 7am every day.
I will believe these men who say their housework is split 50/50 when I see a facebook post where they spent their free time making 72 freezer meals with all their friends

You'd think by listening to the average conservative citizen that "dictator," "fascism," "autocracy," and "coup" are fantasy words like "elf," "dragon," or "sorcery."

"That wouldn't happen."
"That's not what he meant."
"You're overreacting."

Guess we really do live in different realities.

Just started this book
Reading this book 📕 for the third time, might be a blueprint for how Marc Cuban can help build a news 📰 network with journalists like Jim Acosta, who can tell the TRUTH to POWER 💪💪💪 and lead the RESISTANCE 🙏🙏🙏

Arguing in the comment field of a Stanford University Press Facebook post about the queerness of a dead historical figure is EXACTLY how I want to spend my brief hours on this earth fyi

Worth remembering that it was a coup attempt--an attempt to steal Congress's powers and turn the presidency into a dictatorship--and that pushing back mattered. Thanks to everyone who raised a ruckus....

A frustrating thing about teaching writing is that students who cheat (plagiarism or AI) end up getting much more of my time and attention, but deserve it less. It takes time away from students who struggle through the writing process on their own, as they should, and deserve more feedback from me.

Ordinary people resisted the Japanese internment orders, didn't rat out their LGBTQ colleagues during the McCarthy era, committed civil disobedience for civil rights. We may have the opportunity to show that we can live up to their example in our time--what a privilege.

If I was actually a witch (instead of simply playing one on the FreeVee in the minds of my conservative acquaintances) I would organize a nationwide, weekly ritual where we all collectively manifested opposition to TFG's luck/power & publicized it. Get him freaked out that he might lose his Teflon.

A metaphor that is really working for me right now is the idea of "hold action" from D&D. It's the move you make when there's a battle happening all around you, but no enemy is close enough yet to attack during your turn. It basically means, "I'm ready. I'm poised to defend." I'm holding my action.
