Just like a tech stack always limits your choices simply by choosing one tech stack over the other. So does solving a business problem a certain way. Established businesses always have a 'path dependency' that smaller players can exploit simply because they're not tied to a solution yet.

Startups founders avoid competition like the plague when counterintuitively, competition is good. You want to avoid serious competition but by niching down or building a unique product, not by solving a unique problem. Most valuable problems have already been discovered.

Mindset shift for dev entrepreneurs - "Embrace plenty, not scarcity" . Customers are going to get their problem solved one way or another, whether using your product or someone else's. But they're out there and there's plenty of them.
