it’s cool how these people keep saying very openly “we are trying to manufacture nonsense crises so that liberals freak out and do the stupid shit we want them to” and liberals are like “great, we would love to collaborate with you on this venture”
it’s really remarkable how completely deranged the opinion section of the journal is. real jump scare shit

A reminder today that no one—not even those at elite privates—are safe from extreme right wing attempts to remake universities in their image.

And for those of us who dare to engage in public facing work, the risks of doing so have rarely been higher.

The msg: “Cross us and we will come for you.”

Police department budgets are one of those areas in which, if you tell people facts, they immediately reject them as untrue. Compared to 2022, NYPD spent $151 million more on overtime in the subway this year but barely altered the number of major crimes. Robberies went down a bit, assaults went up.
I’m not a 100 percent defund the police guy. but absolutely beyond question that diverting half ish of bloated police budgets would pay massive social dividends
Jobs + cognitive behavioral therapy + social supports fights crime. Reduces shooting and homicide arrests with a benefit-cost ratio between 3.8 and 18.8 to 1.
