I’m loving listening to @emilymbender.bsky.social’s book, /The AI Con/. I thought of her when I read this: abovethelaw.com/2024/04/orig...

Leave it to the originalists to make AI truly dystopian.

All right: it's time for some good ol'-fashing testing talk, like in the days of yore on Xitter.

The testing business is still fixated on test cases. It doesn't have to be that way.

Breaking the Test Case Addiction (Part 1)
Recently, during a coaching session, a tester was wrestling with something that was a mystery to her. She asked: Why do some tech leaders (for example, CTOs, de

When I was young, some people questioned whether it was worthwhile to send humans to the Moon. Now that I’m older, I can say there are some people who should definitely be encouraged to keep trying to go to Mars.

This speaks to the essence of why we test. We live in dangerous times. To understand and address the danger, we can't dismiss — or undermine — questioning and learning.

Carl Sagan says something very important, a strong message that didn't lose any validity since then.

Forgive the earnest post here, but one year ago this week, Global Tetrahedron took over The Onion. We've since brought back the paper and ONN, dramatically increased revenue, and hired more writers and artists.

But most importantly, as other places debased themselves, we refused to bend the knee.

The arbitrary, capricious cruelty of this administration, and of ICE, beggars belief.

I'm a US citizen and a Canadian citizen too. I won't be going back to the US for the foreseeable future because—even as a citizen—I cannot trust that my rights will be upheld.

I observe that as of today, the Washington Post has removed “Democracy Dies in Darkness” from its splash screen and masthead/title bar on its iOS portal. Another sign, I guess, that democracy is dying in darkness.

Knowledge can be like a drug. And it's always good to see US Customs and Border Protection preventing drugs from coming across the border.

Pro tip for the Democrats: start referring to tariffs as "import taxes" because a) that's what they are, and b) supporting import *taxes* doesn't look at all good on a Republican.

I *thought* I had cancelled my subscription to the @washingtonpost.com in November, and was waiting for it to expire. That didn’t happen; it automatically renewed with my noticing. That was bad, but it afforded the mixed but visceral pleasure of cancelling it today. Because fuck that shit.

Using the expression "think outside the box" is a canonical example of inside-the-box thinking.

On a related note, could we change the game where ever damned thing is a "game changer"?

I love when my Kindle (an e-book reading device) automatically installs an update, restarts, and then is suddenly incapable of opening e-books I just bought.

I really love getting software updates for the device that hasn't needed any form of new functionality or features in the 6 years I've had it

I don't understand why people have taken to confusing testing with quality. They don't confuse diagnosis with health; they don't confuse investigative journalism with government ethics; they don't confuse tasting food with deliciousness.

Testing is Not Quality; Quality is Not Testing
Please remember: there's a big difference between quality and testing; and so there's a big difference between a quality strategy and a testing strategy. Und
